About This Role
Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to lead complex, large‑scale technology initiatives with broad enterprise impact. This role is ideal for a hands‑on technical leader who can influence engineering standards, deliver high‑quality solutions, and contribute to the development of modern, scalable, and AI‑enabled platforms. You will collaborate closely with senior engineers, architects, and cross‑functional partners to solve complex technical challenges, mentor peers, and drive innovation across the organization.
In This Role, You Will
Lead complex technology initiatives, including companywide programs with broad impact
Act as a key participant in developing enterprise engineering standards and best practices for large‑scale technology solutions
Design, code, test, debug, and document software solutions across projects and programs
Review and analyze complex, large‑scale technology solutions to support tactical and strategic business objectives
Evaluate enterprise technology environments and resolve challenges requiring deep analysis of multiple factors, including unprecedented technical considerations
Make decisions on engineering approaches by applying industry best practices and emerging technologies
Influence and lead technology teams to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives
Collaborate and consult with senior technical experts, architects, and external industry partners to resolve complex technical issues
Lead projects, guide technical workstreams, or serve as a peer mentor to other engineers
Required Qualifications
5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education
5+ years of hands‑on Java development experience
5+ years of experience developing microservices, including working with MongoDB and Kafka
3+ years of hands‑on experience with container‑based technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes
3+ years of experience with SDLC and Agile methodologies
Experience designing large language model (LLM) prompt engineering, prompt chaining, and evaluation frameworks
Strong ability to troubleshoot and analyze performance bottlenecks
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
5+ years of API‑driven microservices development on internal or external cloud platforms
5+ years of engineering experience leading and developing Core Banking applications
3+ years of experience designing and developing GenAI‑powered applications using LLMs (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, etc.)
3+ years of Kubernetes experience, including OpenShift or other container orchestration platforms
Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Splunk, Elastic, Kibana, Grafana, AppDynamics, New Relic, DataDog, or TrueSight
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
Strong organizational, prioritization, and multi‑tasking skills
Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment, both independently and collaboratively, including with onshore and offshore teams
Job Expectations
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
This position offers a hybrid work schedule
