About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Middleware Principal Engineer to senior technical leadership in designing and evolving enterprise middleware/messaging platforms, with a strong focus on applying AI to improve system reliability, efficiency, and scalability. This role partners closely with engineering, architecture, security, and product teams to deliver intelligent, resilient integration solutions that support business growth. As a technical authority, the engineer sets best practices, mentors engineering teams, and drives innovation through automation, AI-enabled insights, and modern cloud-native approaches.
In this role, you will:
- Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
- Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
- Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
- Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
- Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
- Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership
- Lead the design and evolution of enterprise middleware/messaging platforms
- Apply AI and automation to improve platform reliability, scalability, and efficiency
- Set engineering standards and guide architectural best practices
- Partner with cross‑functional teams to align solutions with business and technology goals
- Mentor senior engineers and drive continuous improvement and innovation
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- Extensive experience designing and supporting enterprise middleware or integration platforms
- Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives and influence architecture decisions
- Experience applying AI, automation, or advanced analytics to improve system performance or reliability
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience mentoring senior engineers
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience applying AI or machine‑learning techniques to optimize messaging and streaming platforms such as MQ, Kafka, and Solace (e.g., performance tuning, anomaly detection, capacity planning)
- Familiarity with using AI‑driven insights to enhance Redis caching strategies, resilience, and latency optimization
- Knowledge of observability, automation, or AIOps tools supporting event‑driven and distributed systems
- Ability to translate AI‑driven platform insights into actionable improvements for engineering and operations teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

Pay Range
Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
$159,000.00 - $305,000.00Benefits
