About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking an Architecture Director/Chief Architect to support the core technology infrastructure for the group. This senior leader will define and drive firm‑wide architectural strategy, govern architecture standards and practices, and enable modernization across core infrastructure, cloud, hosting, development platforms, and operational technology services.

This role is accountable for ensuring that technology solutions across the enterprise are secure, resilient, scalable, compliant, and aligned with long‑term business and regulatory expectations. The leader will influence technology direction across multiple product lines and serve as a key architectural decision authority for the CTO organization.


In this role, you will:

Lead Core Infrastructure Architecture Strategy

  • Establish enterprise architecture specifications, patterns, and standards for CTO‑supported platforms and services
  • Drive cloud, infrastructure, application, and data architecture direction to support regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and cost efficiency
  • Guide long‑term technology architecture planning and strategy

Oversee Technology Health, Lifecycle, and Risk Governance

  • Lead technology health assessments for a large application portfolio, including risk posture, technology currency, and operational readiness
  • Govern lifecycle and modernization planning to reduce technical debt and aging technology risk
  • Drive platform consolidation, optimization, and rationalization initiatives

Run Enterprise Architecture Governance Routines

  • Chair/lead key architecture governance forums including Architecture Review Board, Cloud Architecture Review, Lifecycle & Technology Currency Review, Technology Health & Capability Assessments
  • Review solution designs, manage waivers/exceptions, and enforce standards and patterns

Enable Strategic Programs & Emerging Technology Adoption

  • Provide architectural oversight for large‑scale modernization programs and enterprise migrations
  • Accelerate adoption of generative AI, cloud-native patterns, and emerging technologies
  • Partner early with product, engineering, and CIO organizations to shape technology solutions

Drive Operational Excellence & Cost Optimization

  • Provide insights on technology currency, resource usage, cost drivers, and platform health
  • Guide infrastructure rightsizing and cloud optimization efforts
  • Lead structured remediation planning to reduce technical debt and risk

Influence Enterprise Stakeholders & Lead Cross‑Functional Alignment

  • Partner closely with infrastructure leaders, CIO organizations, engineering teams, and risk/security partners
  • Communicate architectural strategy, standards, and risk insights to senior executives
  • Serve as the accountable leader for enterprise-level architectural decision-making

Leadership & Scope:

  • Leads a team of architecture and engineering leaders supporting core infrastructure, cloud, development platforms, secure networking, and technology operations
  • Direct responsibility for ~11 direct reports and a team of ~43 across the U.S. and India
  • High degree of autonomy and enterprise-wide influence on strategic technology decisions
  • Represents CTO Architecture in senior executive forums, enterprise governance bodies, and transformation initiatives

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of Technology Strategic Leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 4+ years of management or leadership experience
  • 8+ years of experience in enterprise architecture, engineering, or infrastructure leadership
  • 8+ years leading architecture or platform engineering teams in large-scale, complex environments
  • 5+ years managing enterprise architecture governance processes such as ARB, SRP, or cloud governance
  • 5+ years experience in cloud technologies (Azure/GCP), infrastructure platforms, networking, application hosting, and technology lifecycle management

Desired Qualifications:

  • Architecture certifications (TOGAF or equivalent)
  • Cloud certifications (Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Google Professional Cloud Architect)
  • Security certifications such as CISSP or CISM
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline (Master’s preferred)
  • Additional preferred certifications: Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD), ITIL
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity, compliance, regulatory expectations, and risk frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and align cross-functional engineering organizations
  • Experience leading modernization, rationalization, cloud adoption, and enterprise platform transformation
  • Exceptional communication, executive influencing, and technical decision-making skills

Job Expectations

• This position requires the ability to work in an in-office hybrid environment.

• This position is not available for Visa sponsorship

• This position does not have relocation allowance.

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$215,000.00 - $355,000.00
