This Finance and Financial Risk Lead Oversight Officer role is responsible for independent oversight of the Finance organization's operational risk management effectiveness. This role is expected to engage with the Controllership to influence and challenge business activities and decisions. Operational risk results from inadequate or failed internal controls and processes, people, systems, or external events. Operational risk is inherent in all Wells Fargo products and services as it often arises in the presence of other risk types.

This role will lead aspects of operational risk coverage and oversight. The role reviews and challenges front line program execution, including, but not limited to, financial reporting risk, data risk, technology risk, business continuity, payments, information risk management, safety and physical security, third-party risk management, and more. The risk professional in this role will be accountable for understanding Finance functions, products, services, key risks, controls and relevant industry issues.


In this role, you will:

  • Help oversee and challenge the controllers function using the operational risk management life cycle (plan, identify and assess, control, monitor and report, test and validate)
  • Use subject matter expertise and industry knowledge to provide independent oversight and credible challenge to finance's operational risk management activities
  • Engage with control representatives, business management and independent risk teams to promote best practices and a strong operational risk culture
  • Actively engage in key finance risk governance routines including risk identification and assessment, issue management, governance committees, and business reviews
  • Identify and escalate potential and unmitigated risks to business plans
  • Engage with independent risk teams supporting various risk types to ensure appropriate alignment and prioritization
  • Develop and deliver oversight content summarizing the results of risk assessment activities

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Operational Risk experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 5+ years of US (domestic) regulatory accounting/reporting experience or engagement (FRB, FDIC, FHLB, Broker Dealer)

  • Proven experience interacting and communicating effectively, in both written and verbal forms, with all levels of the organization
  • Robust understanding of regulatory reporting requirements and overlap
  • Ability to think strategically and articulate complex concepts in a clear manner
  • Excellent work ethic and a desire to learn and grow
  • Meaningful knowledge of risk management frameworks (risk identification/appetite/strategy, processes and controls, risk analytics and governance)
  • Proven leadership skills to influence change and drive alignment to develop and deliver repeatable risk management solutions
  • Strong understanding of finance functions, business operations, processes, and products where operational risk manifests
  • Excellent interpersonal and influential leadership and communications skills
  • Robust Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) skills
  • Exceptional data and analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to rationalize operations to drive efficiency
  • Strong project management experience
  • Finance, accounting, banking, economics, or information systems degree
  • Solid professional background and interest in banking, finance, and accounting


Job Expectations:

  • In office 3 days/week in Minneapolis, Charlotte, or Dallas.

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.

$111,100.00 - $197,500.00
