Job Summary
To provide semi-skilled work assisting in the installation, maintenance and remodeling, repair and servicing of plumbing systems. Responsible for prompt performance of assigned plumbing and related duties. This entry-level position develops skills to provide the opportunity to apply for a State Apprentice Endorsement within the first six months of employment, and the long term possibility of acquiring skills that lead to becoming a licensed Journeyman Plumber.
Minimum Education and Experience
High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
Requisite skills to attain the State Apprentice License within six months of employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Capable of using wrenches, pipe-cutting and threading tools, metal saws, gauges and pressure equipment.
Ability to perform outdoor work in any type of weather.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • One year certificate from college or vocational school.
  • 1 – 3 years of commercial or industrial plumbing experience.
Other Qualifications
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs service calls and work orders submitted by departments within the University, to include maintaining records, and performs preventive maintenance.
  • Accomplishes the following duties under supervision: performs preventative maintenance and assists journeyman plumbers with advanced plumbing repairs and projects.
  • Surveys buildings and performs maintenance on equipment in a multi-trade team working environment.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Perform all work in accordance with best safety practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and an acceptable driver rating as established in Policy: UTS157 Section 2.5.4.

Work Notice: Work will be performed on site and in-person.
