| Job Summary | The Safety Specialist II for Occupational Health will provide risk assessment support and hazard control guidance to faculty, staff, and students regarding occupational health and safety programs. The role focuses on minimizing risks associated with workplace and campus-wide hazards, promoting a strong safety culture, and maintaining compliance with University policies and federal, state, and local regulations. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Occupational Health & Safety. The role requires technical expertise in recognizing, evaluating, and controlling workplace hazards, as well as applying management-of-change principles to anticipate risks associated with evolving work processes. The Safety Specialist II will serve as a technical expert in occupational health and collaborate with other University safety programs. Responsibilities include implementing and updating industrial hygiene and occupational health programs, conducting baseline surveys and exposure assessments, and evaluating facility operations, construction activities, and environmental air quality concerns. The position also supports safety awareness training and development of outreach materials for hazardous materials and safe work practices. Strong communication skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships across the University are essential. |
| Minimum Education and Experience | Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Three (3) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and acceptable driving record. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position: ability to raise, lower, and transport objects weighing up to 50 pounds using the hand, arm, or shoulder and the ability to walk by moving about on foot for extended periods. |
