Job Summary
Under general supervision, the Employee Relations Specialist II (ERS II) serves as a valued resource working collaboratively with the UT Dallas campus community, promoting and managing employee relations best practices. The ERS II serves as a resource and advisor for employees at all levels, providing guidance, developing, and recommending sound strategies and resolutions to effectively address a variety of employee relations matters involving an employee, supervisor, colleagues, and other concerns related to the employment relationship.

The ERS II plays a critical role in guiding and supporting efforts to promote a positive employee relations environment at UT Dallas.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of human resources experience, including at least three years of direct experience in an employee relations role, or experience in a position with a relevant transferable skill set requiring sound judgment, policy interpretation, conflict resolution, and an understanding of local, state, and federal laws.

Employees at this level are expected to work proactively, collaborate effectively with others, manage a caseload independently, and perform job duties under general supervision.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of general HR, direct training/talent development, or administrative experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides direction and guidance in the resolution of employee relations matters. Serves as a technical resource on policy and procedure and regulatory compliance issues.
  • Meets with employees (in supervisory and non-supervisory roles) to resolve employee relations matters to include, but not limited to, attendance issues; religious accommodation requests; performance management; behavioral issues; conflict resolution; disciplinary actions and separation of employment. Will partner with senior level employee relations representatives on more complex requests.
  • Provides guidance to ensure compliance with the state and federal laws, and UT Dallas and UT System policies and procedures.
  • Utilize a case management system to document, track, and manage employee relations matters, ensuring timely resolution and consistent application of policies. Record all details of concerns, findings, recommendations, and resolutions for issues and consultations
  • Manages and coordinates responses to Texas Workforce Commission inquiries and may represent UT Dallas in phone hearings.
  • Partner with colleagues across campus, including but not limited to Legal Affairs and Office of Institutional Compliance, by supporting investigation protocols and documentation gathering as needed.
  • Manages or supports various employee relations activities, including but not limited to employee recognition programs, special projects, and other initiatives that support the mission of Human Resources.
  • Supports data collection and develop reports to highlight trends for departmental leadership.
  • Participates in and provides training to employees on performance, behavior and attendance management, performance appraisals, providing feedback and other requested topics.
  • Develops training materials and presentations.
  • Participates or advises committees and special project teams as necessary to ensure appropriate interaction with customers and other efforts impacting HR.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

  • Executive Function: Strong organizational and cognitive skills, including the ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Must demonstrate attention to detail, sound judgment, and the capacity to make independent decisions.

  • Mobility: Ability to move about campus and between buildings for meetings, training sessions, and events.
  • Standing/Sitting: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer; occasional standing during presentations or training facilitation.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Ability to lift and carry materials or equipment for up to 10 pounds (e.g., training supplies, printed materials, etc.).
  • Vision: Specific vision abilities required include close vision for reading and computer work, and ability to adjust focus.

Remote Work Notice:
A hybrid remote work schedule may be available. Employees must be located within the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area and have the ability to be on campus for work activities as scheduled and/or with 24-hour notice. Completion and approval of a UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required upon employment, and use of personal computer, internet, and other standard equipment may be required. Remote work arrangements are subject to regular review and re-approval and may be canceled at any time.
