Job Summary
Dr. Erica L. Sanchez is seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Research Associate interested in understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms alterations in host cell metabolism during lytic viral infection, with an emphasis in spatial metabolic signatures. Classical biochemical and molecular biology approaches as well as state of the art metabolomics and lipidomics approaches will be used in this project.

Successful candidates will participate in weekly laboratory meetings as well as contribute to our microbiology community group meetings throughout the year at UT Dallas. Applicants are encouraged to establish a mentoring committee as a part of their postdoc experience. Prior post-doctoral scientists at UT-Dallas have received pathway to independence awards (i.e. K awards) and successfully transitioned to faculty positions.

The Research Associate will be primarily responsible for planning, conducting, and directing a wide variety of experiments. Responsible for the evaluation and interpretation of research data. Will conduct experiments using advanced equipment and applying complex techniques, methods and procedures; plan and execute the details of experiments according to research protocol.

This is an NIH grant funded position, and continued employment is contingent on the availability of funds.

Minimum Education and Experience
Ph.D in a related field.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Ph. D. in microbiology, molecular and cellular biology or related field
  • A minimum of two first author papers published or accepted in a peer-reviewed journal (or pre-print)
  • A firm background in virology, metabolism, basic biochemistry, basic molecular biology, confocal microscopy, and cell culture.
Other Qualifications
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Laboratory research (molecular biology and techniques in molecular virology)
  • Writing manuscripts under the supervision of the principal investigator
  • Identifying and executing troubleshooting efforts, and planning equipment and resource use
  • Individuals will also be actively involved in administrative aspects of running the laboratory (ordering, scheduling, record-keeping, etc)
  • Design, lead, and run experiments and data analysis under the supervision of the PI
  • Provide technical and research support for key laboratory personnel
  • Responsible for the careful documentation of the experimental procedures and results they generate
  • Other duties as assigned
