Job Summary | Gain advanced graphic design, production, and communications experience under the direction of the Director of Design Strategy, within the Office of Communications and Marketing. Responsibilities include but are not limited to graphic design of university publications, collateral materials, advertisements, and multimedia/digital designs for exterior and interior use. Integrate the print/graphic identity established by University Marketing and UT Dallas Web Services team into a variety of pieces that support the UT Dallas brand. This position will develop layouts and design elements for new projects and update existing pieces. |
Minimum Education and Experience | - Bachelor’s degree in commercial art, design, advertising or related field. – Two (2) years experience as a graphic designer or production assistant in a design firm, advertising agency, printing plant or similar organization. – Equivalent of education, experience and/or training is acceptable. – Experience designing graphics for posters, brochures, publications, billboards and invitations. – Good proofreading skills. – Excellent knowledge and skill in computer graphics and desktop publishing software.- Experience in use of MacIntosh computer.- Expert knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. |
Preferred Education and Experience | Proficient knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. Prior experience in higher education, particularly at UT Dallas. |
Other Qualifications | To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position. |
Essential Duties and Responsibilities | • Creatively design and handle pre-press and final layouts for printed materials that support the University’s marketing and branding efforts. • Visit various print shops for press checks. Review, proofs, check color, paper, and layout. • Work independently or with communications managers, designers, internal and external printers and other University personnel to produce time-sensitive materials. • Expected to quickly gain working knowledge of Microsoft Teams and Basecamp. • Balance multiple projects strategically and effectively. • Contribute to pre-production meetings to discuss creative direction for copy, design, and photography. • Illustrate and present conceptual ideas through rough layouts. • Continually gain experience with Adobe creative software and related materials and make recommendations for acquiring advanced knowledge with these creative tools. • Take advanced courses or classes to improve design and production skills. |
Physical Demands and Working Conditions | Mostly sedentary office work. Some local travel required to gather photographs or approve projects for print. Some evening or weekend work may be required to attend events. |

Additional Information | Preference will be given to internal candidates. Remote Notice: After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. May be required to use personal computer and other standard office equipment. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
