The communications manager will be responsible for providing excellent written and verbal communications for the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. The successful candidate will have a passion for communicating complicated, academic subject matter to lay audiences and, in the process, delivering exceptional end-user experiences. They will have excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders. They should be comfortable with strategizing the big picture and completing the week’s task list. They must be comfortable working in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment. |
Minimum Education and Experience | Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, English or marketing. Five to seven years of experience including excellent written and verbal communication skills. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. |
Preferred Education and Experience | Five years of experience in web content management, digital communication or similar roles. Knowledge of SEO best practices and web accessibility standards. Excellent editing and proofreading skills. Mastery of Associated Press style. Familiarity with CampusPress content management system or applicable web publishing software. Familiarity with web analytics tools. Strong project management skills and experience. Experience in a higher education, STEM or academic environment. Working knowledge or a variety of media, including news media, PR and web communications. Strong attention to detail. |
Other Qualifications | To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position. |

Additional Information | Hybrid Remote Work Notice Following successful completion of an initial training period, a hybrid work schedule may be available, subject to business needs and departmental approval. Employees must be located within the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area and have the ability to be on campus for work activities as scheduled and/or with 24-hour notice. Completion and approval of a UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required, and use of personal computer, internet, and other standard equipment may be required. Remote work arrangements are subject to regular review and re-approval and may be cancelled.
