Job Summary
Performs journeyman level work in the installation, repair, maintenance and testing of mechanical systems, including pumps, fans, compressors, and other associated components; and other duties as assigned. Maintain a flexible work schedule including being on-call. Must be willing to work occasional weekends or cover shifts.
Minimum Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED equivalent. An equivalent level of experience is acceptable in lieu of a High School diploma or GED. 1 year experience in maintenance and repair of building mechanical systems with some basic knowledge in electrical, plumbing and building automation. Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
Preferred Education and Experience
Experience with specialized scientific equipment. Prior experience working in a university environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Key responsibilities and duties:
70% Building, Equipment Repair and Maintenance: maintains computer systems (Mac’s), research and teaching lab equipment, building vacuum and compressed Air, kitchen equipment, water purification systems, cold/warm room maintenance, minus 80 freezer monitoring and set up. Specifies and recommends equipment, systems, components and materials for use.
15% Inventory: maintain unit wide capital and mobile assets inventory. Plans, conducts, and documents tests for assemblies and subassemblies to verify that scientific, performance, and integration requirements are met. Surplus old equipment.
10% Departmental Support: building access, system lists management, purchasing, lab start up and close outs of equipment inventory, transfers, and maintenance.
5% Other duties as assigned: tracks and maintains records, systems, procedures, and manual for the operations of systems as build and test records for configurations. This position is considered essential.
