The University of Texas at Dallas has an excellent job opportunity for individuals looking to join the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science team as a Building Coordinator.

Reporting to the Academic and Research Facilities Manager at UT Dallas in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS), the ECS Building Coordinator will be responsible for managing and reporting building and lab safety activities within ECS. This position will be the active liaison working in close collaboration campus partners such as, the Office of Institutional Risk and Safety, Facility Maintenance, UTD Fire and Safety, etc. to promote safety and compliance and is expected to foster a positive safety culture.

Minimum Education and Experience

High School diploma or GED. Intermediate proficiency level in Microsoft Office Suite and Email.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related job experience
  • Associate degree in a relevant field of Occupational Safety, Safety Management, Science and/or Engineering
  • Must maintain a valid, current driver’s license
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Safety Responsibilities
  • Serve as the ECS liaison to ensure workplace practices follow safety and governmental regulations
  • Develop and coordinate safety assessments, incident investigations, and training for the ECS community as needed
  • Conduct inspections of campus laboratories and facilities, evaluating work areas and practices for proper safety control and make recommendations to develop work practices that reduce risk potential
  • Report accidents, incidents, emergencies, exposures, and near-misses involving faculty, students, and staff; collaborates with researchers/principal investigators and other personnel as necessary
  • Provide appropriate recommendations for correcting unsafe conditions and actions based on regulatory compliance and best practice guidance in ECS
  • Track safety incidents and prepare timely safety reports, assist in and monitor corrective actions
  • Ensure disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous material in ECS; determine the proper method of accumulation and disposal based on hazard guidelines
  • Coordinate education or training sessions for ECS through OIRS
Facilities/Project Responsibilities

  • Serve as a point of communication for ECS between Facilities Management and external resources when managing building/maintenance projects
  • Tracks progress and milestone achievements on ECS building/maintenance projects to ensure projects remain within scope, schedule, and budget
  • Create a project performance database for departmental review
  • Coordinate with Facilities to ensure that all aspects of a project are organized, analyze project progress, and adapt a scope or timeline to achieve deliverable requirements.
  • Report project risks and outcomes to appropriate management channels
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • May be required to drive or operate university vehicles

Remote Work Notice
Following successful completion of an initial training period, a hybrid work schedule may be available, subject to business needs and departmental approval. Employee must be located within the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area and have the ability to be on campus for work activities as scheduled and/or with 24-hour notice. Completion and approval of a UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required, and use of personal computer, internet, and other standard equipment may be required. Remote work arrangements are subject to regular review and re-approval and may be cancelled.
