The Office of Financial Aid is looking for an individual with experience in Veterans Education Benefits programs to fill our Assistant Director, Financial Aid position. Apply now to join our team!


The Assistant Director, Financial Aid position will coordinate the student/family counseling and processing of all federal and state Veteran Education Benefits and state exemption and waiver programs. The position reports to the Director of Financial Aid Operations and will supervise the staff of the Veteran Education Benefits Team within the Office of Financial Aid.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and at least three years of higher education administration experience in financial aid, student finance, or related area.  An equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted. 
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Four or more years of experience as a School Certifying Official or processing federal and/or state Veteran Education Benefits.
  • At least one year of experience supervising full-time staff.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, VA ONCE and/or the Texas Veterans Commission Database.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  •  Maintain knowledge of laws, regulations, and rules related to federal and state Veteran Education Benefits and state exemption and waiver programs; monitor institutional compliance with applicable laws, regulations, rules, and policies.
  • Review and analyze current business processes with goals of maintaining compliance, enhancing efficiency, and proactively identifying potential issues or weaknesses.
  • Supervise the Veteran Education Benefits Team; serve as a backup for all Veteran Education Benefits Team tasks.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the U.S. Department of Defense’s Memorandum of Understanding; serve as a Point of Contact; ensure compliance with all financial aid-specific requirements of the agreement and monitor University compliance with the agreement.
  • Attend training and conferences regarding Veteran Education Benefits; create and maintain training documentation for staff.
  • Coordinate audits performed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the U.S. Department of Defense and the Texas Veterans Commission.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the Office of Financial Aid’s course applicability tool to ensure continued compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
