Our client is currently seeking a Design Engineering Data Specialist – Electrical for a 6 month + contract.
Medical, dental, and vision insurance are available to qualified candidates who meet eligibility requirements.
About the Role
We are seeking an Electrical Design Data Specialist to support the development of data-driven solutions for electrical systems. This role focuses on the intersection of electrical engineering expertise and data engineering practices. You will be responsible for defining the requirements for electrical data collection, reviewing complex eCAD designs, and ensuring that design intent and electrical logic are accurately captured in structured formats. You will work with electrical layouts, power grid diagrams, and simulation data to support advanced engineering automation and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Protocol & Guideline Development: Act as the domain expert by authoring technical requirements and annotation guidelines. You will define the rules for how electrical engineering intent, connectivity, constraints, and design rationale should be captured for AI training.
- Data Review & Curation: Audit incoming E/E design data, including electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness designs, component libraries, netlists, and electrical network models from tools such as Capital, ePlan, Zuken, and related platforms, to ensure it accurately represents real-world engineering intent.
- Lifecycle Analysis: Track and document design changes across versions to create datasets that explain why an electrical schematic, wiring harness, network topology, component selection, or design parameter was modified.
- Data Augmentation and Synthetic Data Generation: Use E/E design tool APIs and scripting languages such as Python to generate variations of electrical schematics, wiring harnesses, network topologies, component configurations, and electrical design scenarios to augment training sets.
Basic Qualifications
- BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with E/E design, including electrical schematics, wiring, harnesses, connectors, electrical networks, layouts, or electrical system architecture.
- Strong understanding of electrical design fundamentals, including functional through physical design, circuit connectivity, power and signal distribution, grounding, shielding, protection concepts, wire and cable selection, connector systems, and design-for-manufacturing considerations.
- Hands-on experience with E/E design software such as Siemens Capital, ePlan, Zuken, or comparable electrical design and harness engineering tools.
- Proficiency in Python or a comparable scripting language for automating design tasks, validating engineering data, or generating design variations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and expertise in power grids and electrical networks, including network topology, load flow concepts, protection and distribution systems, grounding, power quality, and electrical system constraints.
- Knowledge of electronics design at the PCB level, including schematic capture, component selection, signal integrity, power integrity, PCB layout considerations, and electronic hardware interfaces.
- Familiarity with engineering design ontologies, knowledge representations, or structured reasoning frameworks for electrical and electronic design rationale.
- Familiarity with Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), functional safety, electrical safety, and safety assurance modeling.
- Knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence, particularly for engineering data preparation, annotation strategies, data quality evaluation, design automation, anomaly detection, or engineering recommendation systems.
- Experience with electrical and electronic simulation tools such as Simcenter, MATLAB/Simulink, ETAP, PSCAD, AFS, SPICE-based tools, or comparable platforms.
- Familiarity with electrical system architecture, requirements traceability, interface definitions, and the interaction between hardware, software, and physical systems.
