About the Role
We are seeking a Business Intelligence Developer to own the end-to-end delivery of Power BI reporting and analytics solutions. In this role, you will partner with business stakeholders, data architects, and technical teams to transform business requirements into scalable semantic models, dashboards, reports, and actionable insights.
You will be responsible for the entire Power BI lifecycle, including requirements gathering, data modeling, development, deployment, production support, performance optimization, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Power BI, DAX, Microsoft Fabric, and SQL, along with a strong understanding of dimensional modeling and reporting best practices.
What You'll Do
- Lead the full lifecycle of Power BI solutions, from requirements gathering and design through deployment, support, and ongoing enhancements.
- Partner with business stakeholders to translate requirements into semantic models, dashboards, reports, metrics, and technical specifications.
- Design and maintain scalable semantic models using dimensional modeling, fact and dimension tables, and star schema principles.
- Develop advanced DAX measures, calculations, hierarchies, KPIs, and business logic to support reporting needs.
- Build and maintain Power Query transformations and support data preparation activities.
- Create intuitive dashboards, scorecards, and visualizations for operational, analytical, and executive audiences.
- Implement and manage row-level security and Power BI access controls.
- Monitor and optimize report performance, semantic models, queries, data refreshes, and overall user experience.
- Utilize SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and T-SQL to validate data, troubleshoot reporting issues, and support data quality initiatives.
- Develop and support Microsoft Fabric solutions, including semantic models, workspaces, warehouses, and lakehouses.
- Design, publish, and maintain Power BI Paginated Reports for operational reporting, scheduled distribution, and export requirements.
- Assess existing SSRS reports and migrate appropriate solutions to Power BI interactive or paginated reporting platforms.
- Partner with Data Architecture and Data Engineering teams to resolve data quality, performance, and reporting challenges.
- Create and maintain documentation for data models, report logic, security configurations, and support procedures.
- Provide production support, troubleshoot incidents, and resolve data discrepancies, report failures, and security-related issues.
- Participate in testing, peer reviews, release activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience developing Power BI reports and semantic models.
- Advanced experience with DAX and Power Query.
- Strong understanding of dimensional modeling and star schema design.
- Experience implementing row-level security and access controls within Power BI.
- Strong SQL Server and T-SQL skills.
- Experience using SQL Server Management Studio for troubleshooting and data validation.
- Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into reporting and analytics solutions.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, including semantic models, workspaces, warehouses, and/or lakehouses.
- Experience supporting or developing SSRS reports.
- Experience creating Power BI Paginated Reports using Power BI Report Builder.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Power BI Project (PBIP).
- Experience with Git-based source control and deployment practices.
- Experience with Tabular Model Definition Language (TMDL).
- Experience migrating SSRS reports to Power BI.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric Data Agents.
- Microsoft certifications related to Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, or Data Analytics.
