Solution Architect and Lead Business Analyst
Location: Fully Remote (EST Preferred)
Type: Contract-to-Hire (3-6 Months)
Compensation: $50-$55/hr
About the Role
We are seeking a highly strategic and technically minded Lead Technology Business Analyst & Solution Architect to serve as a critical bridge between business stakeholders and engineering teams. This individual will drive discovery, translate business needs into scalable technology solutions, leverage data to guide decision-making, and provide architectural leadership across complex initiatives.
This role goes beyond traditional business analysis. You'll bring an independent architectural perspective, challenge short-term fixes that create long-term risk, and help elevate engineering quality, governance, and delivery maturity. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow into a Principal Solutions Architect or broader technology leadership role.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Analytics, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of experience in one or more of the following:
- Business Analysis
- Systems Analysis
- Solution Architecture
- Software Engineering
- Technical Product Management
- Experience leading complex discovery, requirements gathering, and solution design initiatives.
- Strong experience partnering directly with software engineering teams throughout the SDLC.
- Proven ability to analyze data and present actionable business insights to stakeholders and executives.
- Experience evaluating solution scalability, reliability, maintainability, and technical risks
What You'll Do
Partner with the Business
- Collaborate with executives, product owners, and operational leaders to understand priorities and business objectives.
- Lead requirements gathering, process analysis, workshops, and discovery sessions.
- Translate business needs into user stories, functional requirements, workflows, and solution designs.
- Identify opportunities for automation, process optimization, and improved customer experiences.
- Ensure technology initiatives remain aligned with business outcomes and strategic goals.
Drive Data-Informed Decision Making
- Analyze operational, financial, customer, product, and technology data to uncover trends and insights.
- Develop executive dashboards, KPIs, reporting frameworks, and performance scorecards.
- Present findings and recommendations to business and technology leadership.
- Partner with stakeholders to establish meaningful success metrics and reporting standards.
Design Scalable Technology Solutions
- Architect secure, scalable, maintainable, and resilient solutions that support long-term business growth.
- Create solution designs, integration architectures, process flows, and technical specifications.
- Evaluate design alternatives and communicate tradeoffs related to performance, scalability, supportability, and security.
- Identify opportunities to modernize platforms, simplify architectures, and reduce technical complexity.
Provide Technical Leadership & Governance
- Conduct architecture and design reviews to ensure adherence to best practices and enterprise standards.
- Identify technical debt, delivery risks, and architectural concerns before they become business issues.
- Promote reusable, testable, and maintainable solution patterns.
- Help establish architecture governance processes, engineering standards, and design review practices.
Improve Engineering Effectiveness
- Assess application performance, scalability, maintainability, and operational readiness.
- Review code, logs, database queries, integrations, and technical designs to evaluate implementation quality.
- Investigate performance bottlenecks and root causes of technology challenges.
- Partner with engineering teams to recommend sustainable solutions and remediation strategies.
Mentor and Influence
- Coach Business Analysts, engineers, and technical leads on solution design, architecture, and requirements quality.
- Lead technical workshops and architecture discussions.
- Help develop future technology leaders and foster a culture of accountability, quality, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience mentoring, leading, or managing technical teams.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, cloud platforms, APIs, integrations, and enterprise applications.
- Experience with:
- SQL
- Power BI or similar BI/reporting platforms
- Data modeling and reporting architecture
- Agile delivery methodologies
- SDLC, testing, release management, and architecture governance
- Ability to review application code, logs, and technical documentation to assess engineering approaches.
Preferred Industry Experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:

- Benefits Enrollment & Eligibility Platforms
- Insurance Distribution or Aggregator Platforms
- Insurance Technology & Brokerage Operations
- Third-Party Administration (TPA)

- Employee Benefits Data and Operational Reporting
Preferred Certifications
- CBAP or PMI-PBA
- TOGAF or equivalent Architecture Certification
- Microsoft Azure Certification
- Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)
