About the Opportunity
We are seeking experienced Tax Reviewers / Tax Signers to support a high-volume Cross-Border and Global Mobility Tax Practice during the upcoming tax season. This is a fully remote, seasonal opportunity focused on the review and signing of Canadian and U.S. personal income tax returns for expatriates, globally mobile employees, and cross-border taxpayers.
This role is ideal for senior tax professionals who have served as a final reviewer or signer on personal tax engagements and possess deep expertise in Canadian and/or U.S. individual tax compliance.
Important: This opportunity is focused exclusively on personal income tax returns. Professionals whose experience is primarily in corporate tax (T2), indirect tax, sales tax, GST/HST, or corporate compliance will not be a fit for this role.
Expected Availability:
During peak tax season (March and April), candidates should expect to work approximately 50-60 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and sign Canadian and/or U.S. individual income tax returns for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and feedback to tax preparers.
- Review complex cross-border tax matters involving expatriates and globally mobile employees.
- Analyze residency and tax residency issues, foreign tax credits, treaty applications, and related compliance considerations.
- Review supporting calculations, tax equalization worksheets, and documentation for filing readiness.
- Conduct technical research and assist in resolving complex tax questions.
- Ensure adherence to Canadian and U.S. tax regulations and filing requirements.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience reviewing individual income tax returns.
- Previous experience functioning as a Tax Reviewer, Tax Signer, Senior Reviewer, Tax Manager, or equivalent.
- Strong expertise in Canadian and/or U.S. personal income tax compliance.
- Hands-on knowledge of:
- T1 Returns
- Form 1040
- Form 1040NR
- T1135
- T1163
- Foreign Tax Credits
- Residency and Tax Residency Rules
- Cross-Border Taxation
- Global Mobility / Expatriate Tax
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with a Big 4 firm (PwC, Deloitte, EY, or KPMG).
- Background supporting Global Mobility or Cross-Border Tax practices.
- CPA designation preferred but not required.
- Experience reviewing tax equalization calculations.
- Familiarity with TaxPrep, CCH Axcess, or similar tax preparation software.
