POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the day-to-day product management execution of a patient-facing generative AI consumer product. The role operates within the AI value stream under the direction of the Supervisor, Senior Digital Product Manager, who retains ownership of strategic vision, roadmap direction, and senior stakeholder alignment.
The Digital Product Manager is the hands-on delivery engine for the product, responsible for owning the product backlog, driving sprint execution, writing requirements, coordinating cross-functional working teams, and ensuring engineering and design partners have clear, actionable direction at all times.
The ideal candidate brings a solid product management foundation alongside a working-level understanding of generative AI, including how large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, and agentic workflows function. This depth of knowledge is sufficient to engage credibly with AI/ML engineering teams, evaluate feature tradeoffs, and define meaningful acceptance criteria for AI-powered consumer experiences.
This is a contract-to-hire position with the expectation of conversion based on performance and organizational fit.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Banner Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.
NOTE: The core functions are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. Specific tasks or responsibilities will be documented as outlined by the incumbent's immediate manager.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Product Backlog and Sprint Execution: Owns and maintains the product backlog on a day-to-day basis. Writes well-defined user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria for AI-powered consumer features. Facilitates sprint planning, backlog grooming, and sprint reviews in close coordination with engineering and design partners. Ensures the team has clear, actionable requirements at all times and removes blockers to delivery.
2. Requirements and Product Documentation: Translates product direction, consumer insights, and stakeholder input into well-structured product requirements documents. Defines scope, assumptions, dependencies, and open questions for each capability area. Writes acceptance criteria that account for the specific evaluation needs of generative AI features, including accuracy, relevance, and consumer trust, in addition to traditional functional requirements.
3. Cross-Functional Stakeholder Coordination: Serves as the day-to-day coordination point for the cross-functional working team, including AI/ML engineering, UX design, clinical champions, legal, cybersecurity, and analytics partners. Surfaces dependencies, risks, and blockers early; escalates strategic decisions and roadmap questions to the Supervisor, Senior Digital Product Manager. Maintains clear and consistent communication on delivery progress with all stakeholders.
4. AI Feature Design and Evaluation Support: Partners with AI/ML engineers, conversation designers, and clinical reviewers to define how product features should behave, how model outputs should be evaluated, and what safety guardrails are required. Contributes to prompt design reviews, AI response evaluation frameworks, and user acceptance testing criteria. Maintains working knowledge of retrieval-augmented generation, agentic workflow patterns, and large language model capabilities sufficient to engage substantively with the engineering team on tradeoff decisions.
5. Consumer Insights and Product Metrics: Synthesizes consumer research findings, usability feedback, and product analytics into actionable recommendations for backlog prioritization and feature iteration. Defines and
tracks key performance indicators, including use case adoption, conversation completion rates, escalation and containment rates, and patient engagement metrics, and reports on progress against product goals.
6. Regulatory and Compliance Awareness: Maintains working familiarity with HIPAA data handling requirements and FDA guidelines as they apply to consumer-facing health information products. Proactively flags features or content areas with potential compliance implications and coordinates with legal and clinical stakeholders for review prior to build. Ensures AI-powered consumer features meet Banner Health's responsible AI standards.
7. Continuous Improvement: Monitors product performance post-launch, synthesizes feedback from support escalations, analytics, and consumer research, and drives iterative improvement through structured backlog management. Partners with the AI/ML team to identify opportunities to improve model performance, response quality, and conversation design effectiveness over time.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Working knowledge of generative AI technologies, including large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agentic or multi-agent workflows, is required. Candidates must be able to demonstrate this knowledge through prior product or project experience, with sufficient depth to engage credibly with AI/ML engineering teams on implementation tradeoffs, prompt design considerations, and evaluation criteria for AI-powered features.
Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to coordinate across diverse cross-functional stakeholders and produce clear, well-structured product documentation. Must be comfortable operating with appropriate independence in early-stage, ambiguous product environments with minimal supervision on defined scope.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
