Permit Management Specialist

Location: Remote (U.S.)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Permit Management Specialist to lead permit expediting and regulatory coordination for retail and restaurant development projects across the United States. This individual will serve as a subject matter expert in permitting, helping manage complex approvals, support project teams, and drive best practices in permit tracking and compliance.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience navigating building permits, health department approvals, zoning requirements, and jurisdictional regulations across multiple states. This person will play a key role in supporting project execution while helping scale permitting operations across the organization.

What You'll Do

  • Manage and expedite building permit applications for retail and restaurant development projects.
  • Research and interpret permitting requirements across multiple U.S. jurisdictions.
  • Coordinate with municipalities, health departments, building officials, and third-party permitting consultants.
  • Ensure projects comply with building codes, health regulations, and local zoning requirements.
  • Track permit submissions, approvals, comments, inspections, and expiration dates using organized documentation systems.
  • Partner with project managers, architects, engineers, and external stakeholders to maintain project schedules.
  • Identify potential permitting risks and develop solutions to avoid project delays.
  • Create and maintain permit tracking tools, reporting dashboards, and process documentation.
  • Coach and train internal team members on permit expediting best practices and regulatory processes.
  • Stay current on evolving permit requirements and code changes across the United States.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Building Design, Engineering, or a related field; OR equivalent professional experience including 10+ years of experience in permit expediting, permitting administration, or related regulatory roles.
  • Extensive knowledge of building permits, building codes, and permitting processes.
  • Experience managing permitting activities across multiple U.S. states.
  • Experience coordinating with local jurisdictions, regulatory agencies, and third-party permit consultants.
  • Strong project coordination and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting restaurant, food service, or retail development projects.
  • Knowledge of health department permits, food service regulations, and health code requirements.
  • Understanding of zoning, land use, and entitlement processes.
  • Experience working for an architectural firm, permit expediting firm, engineering firm, or commercial construction organization.
  • Experience developing permit tracking systems, workflows, reporting, or process improvements.
  • Experience training, mentoring, or coaching team members.

  • Multi-state permitting experience (10+ states preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of building, health, and zoning requirements.
