Our client is currently seeking an Inner Source Enablement Coach / Lead

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Inner Source Enablement Coach/Lead to help scale Inner Source practices across a large enterprise technology organization. This role focuses on driving adoption, coaching teams, enabling collaboration, and building vibrant practitioner communities that accelerate contribution, reuse, and shared ownership across engineering ecosystems.

This is not a traditional Project Manager or Scrum Master role. It is a hands-on coaching, enablement, and community-building opportunity for someone who enjoys helping teams adopt new ways of working through influence, trust, and practical guidance.

You'll work closely with Product, Engineering, Platform, Architecture, and Design teams to make Inner Source a sustainable and measurable way of working.

What You'll Do

Drive Inner Source Adoption

  • Coach product, engineering, platform, and design teams on Inner Source principles and practices.
  • Guide teams through contributor onboarding and adoption journeys.
  • Help teams prepare repositories, documentation, contribution guidelines, and onboarding experiences.
  • Promote reuse of shared assets and reduce duplication across teams.

Enable Contribution and Collaboration

  • Support contribution workflows including issue management, good-first-issues, code review expectations, and contribution pathways.
  • Identify and remove barriers that prevent teams from contributing to or reusing shared assets.
  • Help establish contribution-ready projects with strong documentation and governance practices.
  • Encourage quality and consistency while maintaining lightweight processes.

Build Learning & Enablement Programs

  • Develop workshops, office hours, onboarding sessions, playbooks, templates, and learning resources.
  • Create role-based learning experiences for contributors, maintainers, project owners, and community members.
  • Transform complex concepts into simple, actionable guidance.

Grow Community Engagement

  • Help cultivate an active Inner Source practitioner community.
  • Facilitate community events, showcases, contribution drives, and recognition programs.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and highlight success stories that demonstrate impact and reuse.

Measure and Improve Adoption

  • Track adoption, engagement, contribution activity, and reuse patterns.
  • Gather feedback and identify opportunities to improve workflows and enablement materials.
  • Provide meaningful insights and reporting to leadership.
  • Support organizational goals related to collaboration, reuse, and community-driven development.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience coaching teams through adoption of new ways of working.
  • Experience working within software engineering, product delivery, platform engineering, developer experience, agile transformation, design systems, open source, or Inner Source environments.
  • Strong understanding of modern software development practices including:
    • Git/GitHub
    • Pull requests and code reviews
    • Documentation standards
    • Issue management
    • Repository collaboration
    • Software delivery lifecycle
  • Proven facilitation, coaching, and change leadership skills.
  • Experience creating workshops, playbooks, onboarding programs, and learning materials.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience building communities of practice, adoption programs, or practitioner networks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with Inner Source, Open Source, Developer Communities, or Platform Engineering.
  • Experience supporting reusable platforms, APIs, frameworks, tooling, design systems, or shared engineering assets.
  • Familiarity with GitHub or other repository-based collaboration platforms.
  • Experience measuring adoption, engagement, developer experience, or community health.
  • Experience working in large, matrixed enterprise environments.
  • Experience supporting recognition, badging, or community incentive programs.
