About the Role
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Data Platform to join our engineering organization and play a key role in designing, developing, and scaling modern data platforms and software solutions.
This is a senior technical leadership position for an experienced software or data engineer who can combine strong hands-on engineering skills with architectural thinking, technical mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration. You will work closely with engineering, product, and business leaders to define technical roadmaps, evaluate technology decisions, and build reliable, scalable, and maintainable data solutions.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience with Big Data, Apache Spark, Python, Scala, and Databricks, along with experience working with healthcare or clinical data. Experience with Epic, FHIR, HL7, and healthcare claims data is highly valued.
What You'll Do
- Provide technical leadership and serve as a subject-matter expert across software engineering and data platform initiatives.
- Partner with senior engineering and product leaders to define technical roadmaps and strategic technology direction.
- Design and develop scalable, maintainable, and high-performing software and data solutions using modern engineering practices.
- Apply software design patterns and engineering best practices to improve code quality, testability, maintainability, and performance.
- Work with product managers and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions and estimate epics, features, and stories.
- Develop and maintain automated build processes, continuous integration and deployment pipelines, and staging environments.
- Design and optimize Big Data solutions using technologies such as Apache Spark, Python, Scala, and Databricks.
- Work with cloud-based platforms and services across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Collaborate with scrum teams to evaluate implementation approaches and provide technical recommendations.
- Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers while promoting strong engineering practices across the team.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 10+ years of professional software engineering or data engineering experience.
- 5+ years in a technical leadership, architecture, staff-level, or thought leadership capacity.
- Advanced experience with Apache Spark and Big Data engineering.
- Strong hands-on programming experience with Python and Scala.
- Advanced experience with Databricks or comparable Big Data platforms.
- Extensive experience working in at least one major cloud environment: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, testing, version control, and maintainable code.
- Experience with modern CI/CD and continuous integration practices.
- Experience developing or integrating web services and APIs using technologies such as REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, or XSD.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts and document solutions clearly.
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within the healthcare technology industry.
- Experience with clinical data and healthcare data platforms.
- Understanding of the full lifecycle of healthcare claims data.
- Experience with Epic, FHIR, and/or HL7.
- Experience designing enterprise-scale healthcare or clinical data solutions.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction across development teams.
