Job Overview
We are seeking a Senior Solution Architect – Tax Data Platform to lead the architecture and integration strategy for a modern enterprise data platform supporting tax-related business capabilities.
This is primarily a Solution Architecture and Enterprise Architecture role, rather than a hands-on engineering position. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience architecting Microsoft Azure and Databricks-based data platforms and translating business requirements into scalable architecture patterns, integration strategies, capability roadmaps, and technical solutions.
The Senior Solution Architect will work closely with business process leaders, data platform teams, product teams, architects, and globally distributed technology resources to evaluate platform capabilities, identify gaps, define integration approaches, and establish repeatable architecture patterns.
The successful candidate is a self-starter who can take initiative, lead architecture discussions, challenge assumptions, and help teams develop practical and scalable solutions. Because this role partners with globally distributed teams, flexibility to occasionally work outside normal business hours may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Map tax-related business use cases and technical requirements to existing data platform capabilities.
- Evaluate platform capabilities and clearly identify what can be supported through existing functionality, configuration, or custom development.
- Conduct detailed gap analysis and maintain a structured backlog of capability gaps to support technology roadmaps.
- Define architecture approaches and integration strategies for addressing identified gaps within platform constraints.
- Translate business and technical requirements into delivery-ready architecture patterns and capabilities.
- Develop repeatable integration and onboarding patterns for new data platform use cases.
- Establish and maintain standard integration architecture patterns for data fusion and platform adoption.
- Partner with business process management, product, data platform, and engineering teams to align technical solutions with business priorities.
- Ensure proposed solutions align with enterprise data models, pipelines, security requirements, governance standards, and architectural principles.
- Provide technical options, trade-offs, and recommendations to support prioritization and roadmap decisions.
- Lead architecture discussions and guide other architects and technical resources toward practical, scalable solutions.
- Collaborate effectively with culturally diverse onshore and offshore teams across global time zones.
- Travel domestically and internationally approximately 15–20% as required.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of overall IT experience, with at least 7 years in Solution Architecture, Technical Architecture, Data Architecture, or a similar architecture role.
- Extensive experience designing and architecting solutions across Microsoft Azure.
- Strong architectural knowledge and practical experience with Databricks.
- Experience with Databricks Delta Sharing and Delta Lake.
- Strong understanding of modern Azure data platform architecture, including:
- Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 (ADLS Gen2)
- Azure SQL
- PostgreSQL
- Azure Event Hubs
- Azure Functions
- Azure Active Directory / Microsoft Entra ID
- Strong understanding of Apache Spark, Databricks clusters, and streaming architectures.
- Working knowledge of Azure Machine Learning, Azure AI services, and Azure AI Foundry.
- Experience with Power BI and/or Databricks Dashboards.
- Strong understanding of enterprise data security and access models, including RBAC and ABAC.
- Experience developing integration architecture, architecture patterns, capability maps, and technical roadmaps.
- Experience performing gap analysis and translating business requirements into technical architecture.
- Ability to evaluate technical options, articulate trade-offs, and make architecture recommendations.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to guide architects, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Alteryx.
- Experience with Snowflake.
- Experience with SFTP, JDBC, or ODBC.
- Experience with Immuta or other data security and governance platforms.
- Knowledge of REST APIs and GraphQL.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Broader knowledge of Azure architecture and cloud-native design patterns.
- Experience working with globally distributed or outsourced technology teams.
- Experience in tax, financial services, professional services, or other complex enterprise environments.
What Success Looks Like
In this role, success means creating a clear connection between business use cases and platform capabilities. You will help teams understand what the data platform can support, where gaps exist, how those gaps should be addressed, and how new use cases can be integrated through consistent and scalable architecture patterns.
The strongest candidates will bring a combination of senior-level Solution Architecture experience, deep Databricks and Azure knowledge, strong integration architecture skills, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into practical technology strategies.
Additional Information
This is a 12-month remote contract opportunity supporting teams across the United States and globally. The position requires approximately 15–20% domestic and international travel and may occasionally require flexibility outside of normal working hours to collaborate with global technology teams.
