Senior Firewall Engineer

About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Firewall Engineer to join our Information Security Engineering team. In this role, you will design, implement, and support secure, scalable network security solutions across enterprise environments. You will play a key role in firewall deployments, migration initiatives, security optimization, and ongoing operations while collaborating with cross-functional technology teams.
The ideal candidate has strong expertise with Palo Alto Networks technologies, experience with Fortinet and Cisco network infrastructure, and a deep understanding of network security architecture and best practices. You are comfortable working in complex, multi-vendor environments and have a passion for solving challenging security problems while improving organizational security posture.
What You'll Do
- Design, implement, and maintain secure network infrastructures using Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, and Cisco routing and switching technologies.
- Lead firewall migration projects, including policy assessment, configuration conversion, testing, and deployment activities.
- Utilize migration and conversion tools such as Palo Alto Expedition, FortiConverter, SmartMove, and other vendor-supported utilities.
- Deploy and support new network security environments, including greenfield implementations and infrastructure expansions.
- Review, optimize, and maintain firewall policies and rulebases to support security, compliance, and operational requirements.
- Configure and manage Palo Alto Panorama, including template stacks, device groups, policy hierarchies, logging, reporting, and role-based access controls.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network security issues across multi-vendor environments.
- Collaborate with network, cloud, infrastructure, and application teams to implement security controls and support enterprise architecture initiatives.
- Monitor security events, alerts, and incidents, contributing to investigation, root cause analysis, and remediation efforts.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, standards, procedures, and operational runbooks.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical security incidents and planned maintenance activities.
- Stay informed of emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security technologies to support continuous improvement efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in Information Security Engineering, or equivalent demonstrated through a combination of work experience, consulting experience, military experience, training, or education.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in network security engineering with enterprise firewall platforms.
- 2+ years of experience configuring, administering, and troubleshooting Palo Alto Networks firewalls and security management systems.
- 2+ years of experience designing and managing security policies, rulebase optimization, and firewall hardening in enterprise environments.
- 2+ years of experience with Palo Alto Panorama, including:
- Device Groups
- Template Stacks
- Policy Management
- Logging and Reporting
- Custom Dashboards
- Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)
- Experience supporting secure network architectures in large-scale enterprise environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Fortinet security platforms and firewall management.
- Knowledge of Cisco routing and switching technologies.
- Experience with firewall migration and policy conversion projects.
- Understanding of threat prevention technologies, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), and network segmentation strategies.
- Experience working within multi-vendor network security environments.
- Industry certifications such as:
- Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE)
- Fortinet NSE/FCP Certifications
- Cisco Certifications (CCNA, CCNP)
- CISSP or equivalent security certification

As part of this contingent resource assignment, you will:
