About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Meteorologist to support the development and validation of advanced weather forecasting solutions. This role combines operational forecasting expertise with technical analysis to improve forecast accuracy, investigate model performance, and collaborate with engineering teams to enhance weather products.

The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in atmospheric science, experience working with numerical weather prediction (NWP) models, and the ability to communicate complex meteorological concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret weather data using operational forecasting techniques and atmospheric science principles.
  • Evaluate numerical weather prediction (NWP) models and identify opportunities to improve forecast performance.
  • Perform forecast verification and model validation using statistical methods and established performance metrics.
  • Investigate forecast discrepancies, conduct root cause analysis, and recommend improvements.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, and product teams to develop and refine weather forecasting solutions.
  • Utilize Python and SQL to analyze datasets, automate workflows, and support forecasting initiatives.
  • Document findings, communicate technical recommendations, and present results to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on forecasting methodologies and atmospheric science.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field with 5+ years of professional forecasting experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in operational weather forecasting and atmospheric science.
  • Experience working with numerical weather prediction (NWP) models.
  • Experience performing forecast verification, model validation, and statistical analysis of forecast performance.
  • Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate forecasting errors systematically.
  • Working knowledge of Python and SQL.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with machine learning or AI-based weather forecasting techniques.
  • Experience partnering with software engineering and product development teams within a technology environment.
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing, consulting, or technical advisory role.
  • Experience using AI-assisted coding tools to improve development workflows.
