Overview:

The Senior Solution Architect – API Gateways & Cloud Platforms is responsible for designing, securing, and delivering scalable API‑driven and cloud‑based solutions that enable business and digital transformation. This role partners closely with the Technical Business Analyst, who gathers and documents business requirements, to translate those needs into secure, resilient, and well‑architected technical solutions.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in API gateway platforms, cloud architecture, and integration patterns, and thrives in a highly collaborative environment working with business stakeholders, digital teams, and engineering partners.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Architecture & Design

• Translate business requirements, gathered by the Technical Business Analyst, into end‑to‑end technical solutions and architecture designs.
• Design scalable, reusable, and secure API‑based solutions, including shared services and platform capabilities.
• Lead architecture decisions for cloud‑native and hybrid solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and best practices.
• Create architecture artifacts such as solution diagrams, interface contracts, integration flows, and technical specifications.

API & Cloud Engineering Leadership

• Architect and govern API gateway solutions, including API lifecycle management, routing, throttling, versioning, and monitoring.
• Define integration patterns and standards for internal and external API consumers.
• Partner with development teams to ensure architectures are implemented correctly and efficiently.
• Participate in technical design reviews and provide hands‑on guidance for complex API and cloud integrations.

Security & Risk Management

• Ensure security is embedded in all solutions, including authentication, authorization, encryption, rate limiting, and threat protection.
• Collaborate with security teams to align solutions with enterprise security standards and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct technical risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies for APIs and cloud services.

Collaboration & Delivery

• Work closely with the Technical Business Analyst and business partners to ensure solutions fully meet business objectives.
• Act as the technical point of contact in discussions with digital teams, platform teams, and external vendors.
• Participate in and lead technical calls related to APIs, integrations, and cloud platforms.
• Support agile delivery by contributing to Jira stories, providing technical acceptance criteria, and guiding teams through implementation.

Agile & Documentation

• Author and review technical user stories, enablers, and acceptance criteria in Jira.
• Maintain clear, concise, and current technical documentation.
• Communicate architectural decisions and trade‑offs to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Example Use Case
• Partner with the Digital team to design and deliver a shared service exposed through a secure API gateway, enabling multiple applications to consume standardized capabilities while ensuring scalability, governance, and security.

Required Qualifications

• Experience in solution architecture, with strong emphasis on API gateways and cloud platforms.
• Proven experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and integration solutions.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Strong understanding of security principles related to APIs and cloud computing.
• Experience working in agile environments using Jira.
• Ability to translate complex business requirements into clear, actionable technical designs.
• Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with enterprise API management platforms (e.g., Apigee, Azure API Management, AWS API Gateway, Kong).
• Background in shared services or platform‑based architecture.
• Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
