System Safety Engineer (Remote)
About the Role
We are seeking a System Safety Engineer to conduct engineering and technical safety analyses for complex systems. In this role, you will evaluate system risks, perform hazard analyses, and ensure compliance with industry safety standards. You will partner with cross-functional engineering teams and support customer-facing discussions to drive safe and compliant system designs.
What You’ll Do
- Perform system safety analyses in accordance with MIL-STD-882E
- Develop and maintain:
- SSHAR (System Safety Hazard Analysis Reports)
- SAR (Safety Assessment Reports)
- FHA (Functional Hazard Assessments)
- HTS (Hazard Tracking System) updates and documentation
- Conduct hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation analysis
- Review problem reports and assess potential safety impacts
- Document findings in formal safety and investigative reports
- Support System Safety Technical Review Panels (SSTRP) and customer reviews
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate safety into system design
- Participate in customer-facing meetings to present safety analyses and recommendations
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace, or related field
- Experience performing system safety analyses using MIL-STD-882E
- Hands-on experience with:
- SSHAR, SAR, FHA, and HTS
- Strong understanding of:
- Hazard analysis techniques
- Risk assessment methodologies
- Experience preparing formal technical documentation and reports
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in defense, aerospace, or DoD programs
- Familiarity with system lifecycle and safety integration
- Experience supporting technical review boards (SSTRP or equivalent)
- Strong communication skills with experience in customer-facing environments
- Advanced degree in Engineering or related discipline
