Senior Data Engineer – Apigee Hybrid (Multi-Cloud Kubernetes)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to design, deploy, and operate a multi-cloud API gateway platform based on Apigee Hybrid across Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure (AKS), and on-premises environments.

This role is central to a large-scale enterprise initiative focused on API governance, security transformation, and resilient infrastructure, tightly aligned with Akamai edge routing and security platforms. You will play a critical role in enabling secure, scalable API ecosystems that support customer-facing SLAs and AI-driven services.

What You’ll Do

Infrastructure Build & Deployment

• Provision and manage Kubernetes clusters across AKS, GKE, and on-premises environments
• Deploy and manage Apigee Hybrid runtime components (Message Processor, MART, Cassandra, Synchronizer)
• Deploy Akamai Noname connectors/remote engines for API security visibility
• Configure secure, outbound-only connectivity between hybrid runtimes and GCP control plane
• Design and implement multi-cloud networking (Azure VNets, NSGs, Private Link, GCP networking)
• Build Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform for repeatable deployments

Integration & Observability

• Integrate telemetry into enterprise observability platforms (monitoring, logging)
• Enable SIEM integration for security event tracking and correlation
• Implement non-blocking telemetry architectures to ensure runtime performance
• Integrate infrastructure and configuration workflows into CI/CD pipelines

Operational Excellence & Stabilization

• Support production readiness, go-live, and stabilization aligned to program milestones
• Participate in incident response, upgrades, and capacity planning
• Monitor and maintain health of multi-cloud environments across GCP, Azure, and on-prem

Governance & Collaboration

• Work across teams to navigate change management and governance processes
• Collaborate with external partners for Apigee and Akamai implementations
• Ensure infrastructure readiness aligns with cross-team delivery timelines

Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

• Create and maintain runbooks, SOPs, and architecture documentation
• Support knowledge transfer and operational handover models
• Document infrastructure processes and access patterns

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or cloud infrastructure
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with Kubernetes (AKS required; GKE/on-prem preferred)
• Experience working with GCP and Azure environments
• Proficiency in Terraform or Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
• Strong understanding of networking, security, and distributed systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Apigee Hybrid or API Gateway platforms
• Exposure to Akamai, Cloudflare, or similar edge security platforms (WAF, DDoS)
• Familiarity with observability tools and SIEM integrations
• Experience with GitOps tools (ArgoCD, Flux)
• Certifications such as GCP Cloud Architect, Azure AZ‑104/AZ‑305, CKA/CKAD
• Experience in regulated environments (e.g., healthcare, financial services
