Travel Ophthalmologist – Disability Examiner
The Judge Group
The Judge Group is seeking board‑certified or board‑eligible Ophthalmologists to perform non‑treatment, evaluation‑only eye and vision disability examinations for U.S. military Veterans and transitioning service members. These exams support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in determining disability benefits eligibility.
This positions requires traveling approximately 3 times per month for trips 1-4 days long. All travel costs and GSA meals are reimbursed or paid in advance.
Position Overview
As a VA Disability Examiner, you will conduct comprehensive ophthalmic evaluations and complete standardized Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs). This role involves no treatment, no prescribing, and no follow‑up care — strictly objective assessments.
Key Responsibilities
Comprehensive Ophthalmic Exams — Evaluate ocular structures, visual acuity, visual fields, and disease‑related findings.
DBQ Completion — Document findings accurately for VA disability determinations.
Medical Record Review — Integrate relevant history into objective reporting.
Objective Documentation — Submit clear, timely, and impartial examination reports.
Maintain professional, respectful interactions with Veterans throughout the evaluation process.
Required Qualifications
MD or DO with completed Ophthalmology residency.
Active, unrestricted medical license in good standing.
Board‑certified or board‑eligible in Ophthalmology.
Current malpractice insurance.
Reliable computer and high‑speed internet.
Strong documentation and report‑writing skills.
