Claims Examiner – Workers’ Compensation (CA)

Location: Remote (California Only)
Duration: Contract (3–6 months, potential extension)


Job Overview

Seeking an experienced Workers’ Compensation Claims Examiner to manage complex California-based claims, including indemnity and litigated cases. This role involves handling high-exposure claims, ensuring compliance with California regulations, and delivering timely, accurate claim resolution aligned with best practices and client expectations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and manage complex workers’ compensation claims, including indemnity and litigated cases
  • Investigate claims, gather relevant information, and determine claim exposure
  • Develop and execute strategic action plans for timely claim resolution
  • Negotiate settlements within assigned authority levels
  • Establish, maintain, and adjust claim reserves throughout the claim lifecycle
  • Calculate, approve, and issue benefit payments and adjustments accurately and on time
  • Ensure compliance with California workers’ compensation laws and statutory requirements
  • Prepare and submit required state filings within designated timelines
  • Identify potential subrogation opportunities and pursue recovery where applicable
  • Collaborate with internal teams, legal counsel, and stakeholders to manage claim outcomes

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience handling California Workers’ Compensation claims
  • Strong background in Indemnity and Litigated claims
  • Self-Insured Plans Certification (SIP) – required
  • In-depth knowledge of CA workers’ compensation regulations and compliance requirements
  • Strong skills in negotiation, investigation, and claims adjudication
  • Ability to manage high-volume and high-exposure claims independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to travel occasionally to Roseville, CA or Long Beach, CA for quarterly meetings/training
  • Candidates located within driving distance of these locations preferred

Additional Details

  • Contract duration: 3 to 6 months, with possible extension
  • Fully remote role (must reside in California)
