USDA manufacturing company based out of the Souderton, PA area is seeking a Commercial Business Manager to join their team. This is a highly analytical strategy role that acts as the commercial backbone for their meat manufacturing and processing operations. Operating entirely behind the scenes, this position works directly through internal sales departments to optimize carcass utilization, maximize margins, and manage risk. By analyzing livestock indices, global meat trade flows, cold storage inventories, and processing input costs, this role equips the sales organization with data-driven pricing models, market intelligence, and structured contract frameworks. This position offers hybrid/remote flexibility.
Responsibilities
Livestock & Meat Market Analytics: Analyze livestock market data, slaughter rates, industry indices, cold storage reports, and global meat trade flows to project supply, demand, and forward pricing curves.
Carcass Valuation & SKU Optimization: Develop models to track carcass cutout values, ensuring product mix strategies align with real-time market profitability and maximizing the revenue yield of every primal and trimmed item.
Sales Enablement & Support: Equip regional and corporate sales departments with routine market intelligence, margin-tracking tools, and defensive data points to support high-value volume negotiations.
Formula & Index Pricing Architecture: Design, build, and maintain complex formula-based contract models tied to livestock and meat benchmarks for sales teams to deploy in long-term supply agreements.
Margin Risk & Cost Modeling: Monitor meat processing input costs, packaging, freight, and energy volatility to identify margin erosion risks, recommending pricing adjustments directly to sales leadership.
Sales & Operations Alignment: Synthesize sales pipeline projections with historical market seasonality and plant capacity to build predictive demand models, ensuring the sales strategy matches manufacturing schedules and livestock intake.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Meat Science (with a business focus), Finance, Economics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field preferred.
Experience: 5+ years of experience in market analysis, commodity trading, procurement, or commercial strategy specifically within the meat packing, poultry processing, or livestock sectors.
Analytical Skills: Advanced data modeling proficiency (e.g., expert-level Excel, BI tools, or statistical software) with a proven ability to translate complex agricultural datasets into actionable commercial strategies.
Industry Acumen: Deep structural understanding of meat industry dynamics, including carcass cutout dynamics, processing yield math, fresh vs. frozen storage impacts, and global meat export/import markets.
Communication: Exceptional internal collaboration skills, with the ability to translate technical market data and margin analysis into clear, strategic guidance for sales departments and executive leadership.
