About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant, Inventory to support complex inventory and regulatory accounting activities. This role serves as a technical accounting expert and lead resource within the inventory accounting function, partnering closely with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective financial controls. The position operates with minimal supervision and provides guidance and training to less experienced accounting staff.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary accounting point of contact for inventory‑related matters across Environmental, Compliance, Reporting, and Corporate Accounting teams
  • Research and interpret accounting treatment for enacted and proposed state and federal regulatory programs
  • Prepare and maintain reports to support regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Maintain general ledger accounts and perform complex account reconciliations
  • Assist management with monthly and quarterly reporting packages for internal and external stakeholders
  • Analyze and interpret high‑volume financial and operational data at an advanced level
  • Oversee day‑to‑day inventory accounting operations and monitor timely completion of accounting deliverables
  • Analyze and review inventory valuations for accuracy and compliance with accounting standards
  • Lead or support special accounting projects and ad hoc initiatives as assigned
  • Review contracts, invoices, and financial documentation to ensure accuracy and proper accounting treatment
  • Provide training, guidance, and technical support to less experienced accounting staff
  • Develop, coordinate, and maintain assigned accounting schedules and reporting timelines
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies in financial data and reports

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and financial analysis
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to perform complex accounting analysis and mathematical calculations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects independently with a high degree of accuracy

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA designation
  • Experience in corporate accounting environments
  • SAP FI/CO system experience
  • Experience supporting regulatory or compliance‑driven accounting functions

Leadership & Autonomy

  • Acts as a lead and subject‑matter expert without direct people management responsibilities
  • Self‑starter capable of independently managing complex assignments and deadlines
  • Provides mentorship, guidance, and technical review support to junior staff

Work Environment

  • Primarily office‑based
  • Occasional work in a refinery or industrial operating environment
  • May require flexible work hours based on business needs
