Job Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Claims Examiner – Auto to manage complex commercial auto claims, including bodily injury, uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM), and no‑fault (PIP) claims. The ideal candidate will possess strong coverage and liability expertise, experience handling high‑severity injuries and large exposures, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced environment. Litigation experience is required for select roles on the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate, evaluate, and manage commercial auto casualty claims, including complex liability and coverage issues.
- Handle bodily injury, uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM), and no‑fault (Personal Injury Protection) claims from initial notice through resolution.
- Evaluate and manage high‑severity injury claims, including fatalities, fractures, traumatic brain injuries, and other catastrophic losses.
- Manage exposure and resolution of claims with authority levels up to $1M.
- Analyze policy language, coverages, and applicable laws to determine compensability and claim strategy.
- Negotiate settlements within assigned authority and recommend settlements outside authority when appropriate.
- Manage litigated claims involving BI/UM/UIM in partnership with defense counsel (required for select roles).
- Coordinate with internal teams, external TPAs, vendors, and legal counsel to ensure timely and cost‑effective claim outcomes.
- Prepare and present claim evaluations and strategies to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure regulatory compliance and maintain accurate claim documentation.
- Provide excellent service while operating in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment.
Required Qualifications
Education & Licensing
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Professional insurance or claims certification preferred.
- Must secure and maintain all required state adjusting licenses.
- Licensed in the contiguous 48 states.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of commercial auto claims experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of commercial auto policies, coverages, liability principles, and applicable laws.
- Demonstrated experience handling complex bodily injury claims, including catastrophic injuries.
- Experience handling UM/UIM and PIP (No‑Fault) claims.
- Experience managing claims with exposure levels up to $1,000,000.
- Litigation handling experience related to BI/UM/UIM required for select team members.
- Third-Party Administrator (TPA) experience is a plus.
- Auto Physical Damage (APD) handling experience preferred.
