Role Expectations & Responsibilities

The Senior IT Architect will serve in a role that is highly advisory, collaborating closely with fellow architects and senior engineering staff. The position requires the ability to design, evaluate, and implement complex cloud and infrastructure solutions while contributing to modernization and cost‑reduction initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

Architectural Leadership

• Provide architectural consultation and technical expertise across multiple IT domains.
• Lead multi-disciplinary teams to design and deliver complex, high‑impact technology solutions.
• Evaluate IT proposals for cost, scalability, and alignment with company strategy.
• Drive modernization efforts, including cloud migration and cost optimization.

Technical Execution

• Design, architect, install, configure, and maintain system hardware and software infrastructure.
• Support full lifecycle development: requirements, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Develop and implement proactive monitoring strategies for critical business services.
• Deliver system enhancements and recommend innovative technologies to improve performance and reduce operating costs.

Operational Excellence

• Serve as a subject matter expert across multiple technical fields.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting and resolution for complex architectural issues.
• Interface with vendors to resolve technical challenges.
• Maintain technical currency through research, training, and industry best practices.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Mentor junior staff and provide technical direction.
• Communicate architectural decisions and business impacts to stakeholders at all levels.
• Simplify complex concepts and processes for diverse audiences.
• Influence key decision-makers and collaborate effectively across teams.

Core Technical Skills

• Programming: Python, Go, Java (ability to work across multiple languages)
• Cloud Technologies:
• • AWS: EC2, Lambda, ECS, VPCs, ALB/NLB, API Gateway, Transit Gateway, etc.
  • CDN/DNS/WAF: Akamai, CloudFlare
• UNIX/Linux Expertise: Strong background in UNIX environments (Ubuntu, RHEL)
• Infrastructure Provisioning: Terraform, Packer, Docker, CloudFormation
• Configuration Management: Chef, Ansible
• Orchestration Tools: Chef (referred to as “shaft” in notes), Ansible
• Monitoring & Logging: DataDog, CloudWatch, Splunk
• Databases: Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, DocumentDB, MongoDB
• Web Platforms: Payara, JBoss, Tomcat
• Build & CI/CD Tools: Maven, Ant, Jenkins, Cobertura, PMD, FindBugs
• API & Web Services: SOAP, XML, UDDI, HTTP API design and troubleshooting
