Role: Brand Naming Specialist

Job Description:
The role is responsible for leading and governing the naming process across initiatives, ensuring names are strategically aligned, legally viable, and support broader brand and communication objectives. This individual will work cross‑functionally to educate, align, and guide stakeholders through a disciplined and scalable naming approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Educate internal teams on the value and impact of a clear, intuitive, and systematic naming framework
- Partner with cross‑functional teams to triage and prioritize naming requests, aligning them with broader brand and communication initiatives such as value proposition development
- Own and oversee end‑to‑end name development, ensuring process best practices are followed and building confidence in final recommendations
- Liaise with business teams to gather inputs, define objectives, and identify appropriate stakeholders to achieve early strategic alignment
- Develop clear and actionable naming criteria to support broad creative exploration and objective evaluation
- Lead alignment and “tissue” sessions to review concepts and build shared understanding
- Conduct competitive and market audits to assess the naming landscape and clarify the role of the name in context
- Generate high‑quality, strategically aligned, and legally viable name options and manage iterative refinement
- Assess when internal creative capabilities should be supplemented by external agency support and manage those engagements as needed
- Develop compelling naming presentations to support shortlisting, stakeholder alignment, and decision‑making
- Partner with internal teams and external vendors to coordinate legal clearance, linguistic reviews, and validation research to identify trademark, cultural, and association risks
- Drive alignment with key stakeholders on final name selection and approval
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong understanding of brand, naming, and verbal identity principles
- Proven ability to lead complex, cross‑functional processes and influence stakeholders at multiple levels
- Experience developing naming strategies, criteria, and presentation materials
- Ability to balance creative exploration with legal, linguistic, and business considerations
- Strong collaboration, facilitation, and communication skills
- Comfort managing multiple workstreams and prioritizing effectively in a dynamic environment
