Job Title: Data Scientist
Location: 100% Remote
Duration: 10+ Months
Schedule: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST, Monday–Friday.
Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to support the adoption of the R programming language within our clinical data environment. This role will focus on migrating SAS and VBASIC legacy programs to R, including specifications development, coding, and validation. The consultant will also provide training and mentoring to experienced SAS users transitioning to R. Success in this role requires strong statistical programming expertise, hands‑on experience with SAS and R, and the ability to collaborate across biostatistics, data management, and analytics teams.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with cross‑functional teams to transition applications from SAS/VBASIC to R.
Conduct code reviews and assess legacy programs for migration suitability.
Recode SAS applications into R, selecting appropriate packages, functions, and algorithms.
Develop and maintain documentation including specifications, validation plans, test cases, and reports.
Support training and mentoring of SAS users migrating to R.
Collaborate with statisticians, data engineers, and data scientists to ensure smooth adoption.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or related quantitative field preferred.
8+ years of statistical programming experience, ideally in medical device or biopharmaceutical industries.
Minimum 3 years of R programming experience (within the 8+ years total).
Strong programming skills in SAS, R, and SQL; experience with Python, VBASIC, and dashboard tools (PowerBI, Qlik, Tableau) is a plus.
Experience with modern database platforms such as Snowflake and Delta DataLake preferred.
Prior experience supporting SAS → R transitions strongly desired.
Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills.
