Role: Transport Engineer
Location: Remote
Responsibilities:
• Perform detailed equipment engineering for network augments. This includes developing all the specifications required for proper installation, turn-up, inventory, and configuration of network equipment, creating applicable diagrams/ drawings, and ensuring vendor delivery.
• Ensure that work meets all applicable engineering, financial, planning, and operational standards.
• Create business cases to support and secure budget for development initiatives.
• Vendor management.
• Partner with market engineers, HQ Planning, Maintenance Engineering, IT, other tool business owners, and vendors, to ensure successful support for new network elements or designs
• Manage, input, and update central Network Inventory Database to reflect various network topologies.
DESIRED SKILLS:
• Experience configuring and deploying Ciena (SAOS), Cisco Systems (IOS-XR), Nokia (SR-OS) router or switching architecture.
• Familiarity with network protocols (e.g., BGP, ISIS, MPLS, Segment Routing, EVPN, PTP, TWAMP).
• Familiarity with network management protocols (SNMPv3 or NETCONF/YANG or OVSDB or OpenFlow or ODL) and model-driven network automation.
• Experience in an Agile development environment as part of a team of engineers, developers, and testers.
• Ability to synthesize or understand routing designs and translate that to a front door request that IT can use for development.
• Experience with key Verizon Wireless tools - FUZE, INAM, Granite/CND, IOP, Service Portal, or 1EMS.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Excellent decision-making skills (making appropriate use of available information and data; making sound decisions with minimal support from Manager; and being responsible for specific projects or definable portions of larger projects or processes.)
• Ability to balance technical and business requirements.
• Superior organizational and planning skills (setting and communicating priorities; anticipating workload impact on resources of both self and team; delegating where appropriate; consistently following up on outstanding items; and providing focus in meetings and discussions).
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or related discipline) is recommended, Master’s degree desired.
• A minimum of 6 years’ experience in experience in wireless industry with a focus on telecommunication and transport networks.
