The Director of Commissioning is responsible for leading, managing, growing, and executing the efforts of the Commissioning Department that presently conducts Commissioning (Cx) services to the CyrusOne Data Center portfolio.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Engineering Project Managers, customers, the design team, and construction/installation partners to review projects in the commissioning phase.

  • Become a subject matter expert in the commissioning process, support ongoing improvements to processes and systems, and train others.

  • Take a lead role in updating and refining the commissioning process based on new technology.

  • Responsible for managing and leading the commissioning department.

  • Manage and mentor commissioning staff.

  • Coordinate with project team members internal and external to facilitate a successful commissioning process on each project.

  • Develop a commissioning plan per project. Maintain, update, and distribute plans as required to facilitate a successful commissioning project.

  • Issue project status updates to the Client at defined regular intervals during the commissioning process.

  • Schedule and chair commissioning kick-off and subsequent commissioning meetings for each commissioning project.

  • Review project-specific commissioning specifications and deliver them to the project team for review and inclusion.

  • Review and verification of all project commissioning procedures.

  • Assist with training and growing the commissioning department.

  • Assist in customer Request for Proposal commissioning requirement reviews.

  • Assist in developing tools and templates for the Commissioning Department.

  • Manage and monitor the closeout and turnover of the project to operations post commissioning.

Qualifications:

  • 10 years of related industry experience desired, including a minimum of 5 years commissioning experience.

  • Project management expertise, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning.

  • Proficiency in client-facing/client relationship/client management skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and general computer use.

  • Proficiency with construction management software such as Pro-core, PlanGrid, etc.

  • Experience with commissioning software or ongoing commissioning tools.

  • Experience using CxAlloy is a plus.

  • Experience using Revu Bluebeam is a plus.

  • Technical knowledge of MEP system design and operation experience with controls and instrumentation (design or implementation).

  • Electrical Experience is a plus.

  • Ability to climb ladders/stairs and lift and carry loads over 20 lbs. Able to be on a job site for extended periods (8-10 hours).

  • Familiar with the engineering submittal review and RFI processes.

  • Familiar with MEP construction standards and guidelines.

  • Ability to view drawings in AutoCAD and Revit.

  • MEP Design experience.

  • Ability to travel as needed.

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent related industry experience.

  • Commissioning Certifications including QCxP, CxA or similar are preferred.

Work Environment:

  • This role will require office work and limited site work to perform commissioning tasks.

  • The ability to be active and mobile on job sites is required.

  • The ability to climb ladders/stairs and to lift and carry loads over 20 lbs. and to be on a job site for extended periods (8-10 hours) is needed.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 8-10 years’ experience in commissioning experience with technical MEP system design and operation, instrumentation and controls experience, trade experience with associated contractor fields, and experience with new buildings operation

  • Prior Supervisory experience

  • Ability to assess and delegate resolution of issues.

  • Encourage constructive feedback on performance so lessons can be learned as part of a continuous improvement culture.

  • Proficiency with MEP systems

  • Ability to work well under pressure and multiple concurrent priorities

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills coupled with strong business acumen

  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, contracts (i.e. AIA), leases & work letters

  • Able to prepare & understand project financial models & cost analysis

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent work experience

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone and keyboard.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work

  • Light to moderate lifting is required

  • Ability to uphold the stress of traveling

  • Regular, predictable attendance is required; including quarter-driven hours as business demands dictate.

Work environment:

  • Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).

  • Ability to work in a confined area.

  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time
