The Director of Risk is responsible for developing and overseeing the company's risk management strategies, ensuring the identification, assessment, and mitigation of potential risks to protect the organization's assets, reputation, and financial stability.

Responsibilities:

  • The Director will work closely with senior leadership to ensure that risk management practices are integrated into all aspects of the business, from project inception to completion.
  • Develop and implement a robust risk management framework that aligns with the company’s strategic goals and objectives in the real estate sector.
  • Conduct regular assessments of potential risks, including market fluctuations, regulatory changes, environmental issues, and project-specific risks, and provide actionable insights to mitigate these risks.
  • Support the Owner-Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) and Builder’s Risk Program, as well as supporting claims while managing Insurance administrators as necessary.
  • Work directly with construction, procurement and financing teams to align timing and placement of coverage for new projects.
  • Partner with broker to direct the purchase and annual renewal of the insurance programs, such as general liability property and executive lines.
  • Manage third party relationships with service providers such as brokers, insurers, financing counterparties, and TPA’s.
  • Perform contract reviews and communicate/negotiate terms with business units and clients.
  • Advise on insurable and uninsurable risks to project teams and business unit leaders.
  • Evaluate prequalification of high-risk subcontractors and create appropriate risk mitigation plans.
  • Create and deliver training on insurance coverage and process.
  • Strong problem solving, planning, and organizational skills-including multi-tasking.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal capabilities.
  • Ability to work in a high-demand, rapid-paced environment, managing several open items concurrently and reprioritizing based on business unit needs.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in risk management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the real estate development industry.
  • Strong knowledge of real estate development processes, financial modeling, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing risk management strategies in a corporate environment.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and influence decision-making at the executive level.
  • Proficiency in risk management software and tools.

Education / Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; a Master’s degree or relevant certification (e.g., FRM, CRM) is preferred.
