Position Overview

We are seeking an entry-level IT Asset Management Technician to support day-to-day software licensing, asset management, and process documentation activities within an enterprise IT environment. This position will work closely with the software management team to administer licenses, process software requests, maintain accurate inventory records, and ensure software management procedures remain current and well documented.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career IT professional who is highly organized, comfortable working in Excel, and interested in developing experience with enterprise software licensing and IT asset management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer software licenses through vendor and publisher portals, including assigning, reclaiming, and reconciling licenses for Microsoft, Adobe, Canva, and other enterprise applications.

  • Process software requests from intake through fulfillment, including verifying approvals, confirming license availability, coordinating installations, and closing completed requests.

  • Maintain software license inventories and entitlement records using Excel and asset management tools.

  • Reconcile software portal counts against purchased licenses and entitlements.

  • Track software renewals, true-ups, and expiring subscriptions and communicate upcoming actions to the appropriate team members.

  • Assist with software-related recovery and access requests, including BitLocker recovery key retrieval, according to established procedures.

  • Review existing software management documentation and update, consolidate, or retire outdated procedures.

  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), desk guides, and job aids.

  • Document previously undocumented processes to ensure software management workflows are captured from end to end.

  • Respond to internal questions regarding software requests and license status, escalating issues when appropriate.

  • Prepare periodic software license usage and compliance reports using Excel.

Required Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in IT support, software/license administration, IT asset management, or a related technical support environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, sorting/filtering, VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP, and pivot tables.

  • Hands-on experience with at least one enterprise software administration portal, such as Microsoft 365 Admin Center or Adobe Admin Console.

  • Strong written communication and documentation skills, including the ability to translate processes into clear, step-by-step instructions.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Teams.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and manage multiple requests simultaneously.

  • Ability to follow established IT processes and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Software Asset Management (SAM) or software license compliance in a mid-size or large organization.

  • Experience with an IT service management (ITSM) or IT asset management platform.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Adobe enterprise licensing models.

  • Previous experience within a government or public-sector IT environment.

  • CompTIA A+, Microsoft 365 Fundamentals, or a similar entry-level IT certification.
