IT Support Specialist – Desktop & End User Support

Location: Dallas, TX

Work Environment: On-Site

Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire

The Opportunity

CornerStone Staffing is partnering with a growing Dallas-based organization to identify an IT Support Specialist who can take ownership of day-to-day end-user technology support in a modern Windows and macOS environment.

This is not a call-center helpdesk position.

We're looking for someone who enjoys being hands-on with technology, can troubleshoot beyond a script, and is comfortable being a visible and trusted IT resource for employees. You'll work across laptop deployment, Microsoft 365, identity and access, hardware and software troubleshooting, connectivity issues, and employee onboarding while gaining exposure to technologies such as Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, and modern endpoint management.

This opportunity is well suited for an IT professional who has built a strong foundation in helpdesk or desktop support and is ready for greater ownership, broader technical exposure, and continued career growth.

What You'll Be Doing

End-User & Desktop Support
  • Serve as a primary technical resource for employees experiencing hardware, software, account, or connectivity issues.
  • Diagnose and resolve Tier 1 and Tier 2 support issues across Windows 11 and macOS environments.
  • Provide hands-on, remote, phone, and in-person technical support.
  • Troubleshoot laptops, monitors, docking stations, printers, peripherals, applications, and operating systems.
  • Support Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, Word, Excel, and related services.
  • Troubleshoot problems independently, identify root causes, and escalate advanced issues with useful technical documentation.

Laptop Deployment & Endpoint Support
  • Configure, provision, deploy, and support Windows and macOS laptops.
  • Prepare technology for new employees and ensure systems are ready for use on their first day.
  • Install and maintain approved applications, operating system updates, security patches, and device configurations.
  • Assist with laptop refreshes, replacements, upgrades, and larger device-deployment initiatives.
  • Support endpoint-management processes using tools such as Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, Jamf, or similar platforms.
  • Maintain accurate records of devices, peripherals, licenses, and other IT assets.

Identity, Access & Microsoft 365
  • Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding.
  • Create and maintain user accounts, email access, groups, permissions, and basic access controls.
  • Support Microsoft Active Directory and/or Microsoft Entra ID environments.
  • Troubleshoot password, MFA, authentication, account-lockout, and access issues.
  • Help ensure employees have the appropriate systems and application access based on business requirements.

Network & Connectivity Support
  • Troubleshoot common Wi-Fi, VPN, internet, printer, and shared-resource connectivity problems.
  • Apply working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, IP addressing, and basic network troubleshooting.
  • Identify whether an issue originates from the endpoint, user configuration, application, network, or another system before escalating.

Ticketing, Documentation & IT Operations
  • Own support requests from initial contact through resolution whenever possible.
  • Accurately document troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and user communication within the ticketing platform.
  • Prioritize tickets based on urgency, business impact, and user needs.
  • Identify recurring problems and document solutions for the internal knowledge base.
  • Assist with IT projects, application rollouts, equipment refreshes, and other technology initiatives.
  • Partner with senior IT resources and outside vendors when advanced issues require escalation.

What We're Looking For

We're targeting someone with approximately 2–4 years of hands-on helpdesk, desktop support, or end-user computing experience who has progressed beyond basic scripted support.

You should be comfortable investigating a technical issue, asking the right questions, testing possible causes, and working toward a resolution without requiring constant direction.

Core Technical Experience
  • Hands-on experience supporting Windows 10/11 in a professional environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and common end-user applications.
  • Experience with Active Directory and/or Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting laptops, monitors, docking stations, printers, and peripherals.
  • Exposure to macOS setup, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience working in a ticketing platform such as ServiceNow, Jira Service Management, Freshservice, Zendesk, or a comparable system.
  • Understanding of fundamental networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi, VPN, and IP addressing.
  • Experience supporting user accounts, passwords, permissions, MFA, and common access issues.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve common desktop-support issues.

Experience That Will Help You Stand Out

You don't need every item below, but candidates with experience in several of these areas will be especially well aligned:
  • Microsoft Intune
  • Windows Autopilot
  • Microsoft Entra ID
  • Jamf or another Apple device-management platform
  • Laptop imaging and large-scale device deployment
  • Microsoft 365 administration
  • Executive or VIP technical support
  • IT asset-management processes
  • Endpoint security and device-compliance tools
  • Mobile device management
  • PowerShell fundamentals or basic scripting
  • Knowledge-base and technical documentation development

Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft, Apple, or related IT certifications are welcomed but are not a substitute for strong hands-on troubleshooting ability.

The Person We're Looking For

Technical ability matters, but so does how you work with people.

The right person will:
  • Take ownership of problems rather than simply passing tickets along.
  • Be comfortable approaching employees and working through technical issues face-to-face.
  • Explain technology clearly without overwhelming non-technical users.
  • Know when to continue troubleshooting and when an issue needs escalation.
  • Stay organized while balancing multiple requests and competing priorities.
  • Document work thoroughly so someone else can understand what happened.
  • Be curious about technology and interested in expanding their technical skill set.
  • Bring a professional, patient, and service-oriented approach to IT support.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first several months, you should be able to independently handle the majority of routine end-user technology requests, confidently deploy new laptops and employee accounts, support both Windows and Mac users, and become a dependable resource employees trust when technology isn't working.

You'll know you're successful when you're not simply closing tickets—you're reducing repeat issues, improving the employee technology experience, and helping the IT environment operate more efficiently.
