Job Title: Mainframe IMS Application Database Administrator
Location: Remote (U.S. Based only)

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8: 00 AM 5: 00 PM CT

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe IMS Application Database Administrator for a long-term contract engagement supporting critical legacy system operations and modernization efforts. This is a hands-on role requiring deep expertise in managing IMS databases, application support, and mainframe operations within a z/OS environment.

The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining IMS application databases across all environments (development, acceptance, and production), providing performance tuning, recovery, DBRC operations, and assisting in overall system optimization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer IMS application databases including performance tuning, DBRC recovery, and database reorganization.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production and testing issues related to IMS databases and batch operations.
  • Assist development teams with application deployments and environment configurations.
  • Support CICS and COBOL batch jobs integrated with IMS.
  • Coordinate mainframe software upgrades, disaster recovery tests, and change management.
  • Maintain job control language (JCL), system utilities, and scheduler jobs.
  • Provide after-hours support for nightly batch processing as needed.
  • Document technical procedures and best practices related to database and application support.

Required Skills & Experience:
  • Experience with z/OS Systems platform
  • Experience with mainframe IMS database administration
  • Experience with DBRC and forward recoveries
  • Experience with IBM utilities: TSO, SYSVIEW, SDSF, JSF, IDCAMS, IEBGENER, IEFBR14
  • Experience with Batch and CICS COBOL, IMS application support
  • Experience developing and troubleshooting complex JCL
  • Experience with JCL, CICS, VSAM, and TSO
  • Experience writing, analyzing, and debugging REXX programs in a z/OS environment
  • Experience with IMS HAL databases
  • Experience with IMS Catalog

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Top Secret administration and reporting
  • Experience with mainframe printer assignments (IPPrintway)
  • Familiarity with ISPF panels, REXX scripting, and skeletons
  • Experience with ISMF storage functions
  • Working knowledge of batch SFTP/FTPS
  • Experience with Informatica PowerExchange (IMS or VSAM datasets)
  • Knowledge of logically related IMS application databases
