Job Description:
Baker Tilly is seeking a Managing Director to lead its Insurance Managed Services practice. This role will lead the strategy, growth, and delivery of the firm’s Managed Services offerings for the Insurance industry. This executive leadership role will be responsible for building and scaling insurance-specific managed services that help carriers and other insurance organizations transform and operate critical business functions, address talent and capacity constraints, improve operational performance, and leverage technology, automation, and AI to achieve sustainable business outcomes.
The Managing Director will partner closely with Insurance industry leadership, Managed Services, client service teams, Technology, Operations, Data and AI, Risk and Compliance, offshore delivery teams, and Growth leaders to establish a cohesive strategy for Insurance Managed Services. This includes identifying business functions and processes well suited for managed services, developing and commercializing new offerings, establishing scalable delivery models, expanding recurring revenue relationships, and ensuring consistent, high-quality client delivery.
This is a senior leadership role focused on establishing a differentiated market position for Baker Tilly within the Insurance industry while building a scalable, technology-enabled Managed Services business. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of insurance operations and understands how underwriting, policy administration, claims, finance, regulatory and compliance, data, and supporting technology come together within an insurance operating model.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute the strategic vision for Baker Tilly’s Insurance Managed Services business, aligning the portfolio with the evolving operational needs and strategic priorities of insurance organizations.
Identify the insurance business functions and processes where Baker Tilly can create differentiated value through ongoing managed services, technology enablement, automation, AI, and alternative delivery models.

Build, commercialize, and scale managed services offerings across insurance operations, including areas such as:
Underwriting operations – submission intake and processing, data enrichment, clearance, underwriting workflow support, and other underwriting support activities.
Policy administration and servicing – policy issuance, endorsements, renewals, cancellations, reinstatements, and ongoing policy servicing.
Claims operations – claims intake and FNOL support, claims administration, documentation, workflow support, and related operational activities.
Insurance finance and accounting operations – premium accounting, billing and collections, reconciliations, financial close, management reporting, and related finance processes.
Regulatory, risk, and compliance operations – regulatory reporting, operational controls, documentation, compliance support, and related recurring activities.
Insurance data and reporting operations – data management, data quality, reporting, analytics support, and recurring data processes supporting insurance operations.
Insurance application and platform operations – ongoing business and operational support for core insurance platforms and applications in partnership with Technology Managed Services capabilities.
Develop scalable, repeatable delivery models that combine insurance subject matter expertise, standardized processes, technology, automation, AI, and onshore, nearshore, and offshore resources.
Help clients evaluate their insurance operating models and determine which activities should be retained internally, transformed, automated, or delivered through a strategic managed services relationship.
Lead the transition from project-based consulting and transformation engagements to long-term managed services relationships encompassing transition, ongoing operations, optimization, and continuous improvement.
Partner across Insurance, Managed Services, Technology, Data and AI, Risk and Compliance, Operations, Offshore Delivery, and Growth teams to bring integrated solutions to insurance clients while maintaining clear accountability for the Insurance Managed Services client proposition.
Serve as executive sponsor and trusted advisor for strategic insurance clients, engaging C-suite and senior business leaders on operating model transformation, expense management, workforce challenges, operational performance, technology modernization, and managed services strategy.
Develop executive relationships across the insurance ecosystem and position Baker Tilly as a strategic partner capable of both transforming and operating critical insurance business functions.
Drive business growth by identifying market opportunities, developing go-to-market strategies, leading strategic pursuits, building market awareness, and expanding Managed Services relationships within existing insurance clients.
Develop compelling business cases and value propositions based on measurable insurance outcomes, including improved productivity, reduced operating costs, improved cycle times, increased scalability, enhanced service quality, stronger controls, and improved access to specialized talent and capabilities.
Establish service delivery standards, governance models, KPIs, SLAs, quality controls, and operational performance frameworks appropriate for insurance processes and client requirements.
Champion the use of AI, automation, intelligent workflows, analytics, and emerging technologies to redesign insurance processes, reduce manual activity, improve decision support, and create differentiated client value.
Establish appropriate controls and governance to address the regulatory, privacy, security, quality, and operational risks associated with delivering critical insurance processes through a managed services model.
Maintain strong commercial and financial discipline across the portfolio, including pricing, contracting, recurring revenue, delivery economics, margin performance, capacity management, investment decisions, and portfolio profitability.
Make strategic decisions that balance client experience, regulatory and operational risk, innovation, scalability, growth, and financial performance while advancing Baker Tilly’s long-term vision for the Insurance practice.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be an experienced executive leader with deep knowledge of insurance operations and the insurance value chain, combined with demonstrated experience in managed services, business process outsourcing, insurance operations, consulting, or technology-enabled services. This individual will understand how insurance organizations operate across underwriting, policy administration and servicing, claims, finance and accounting, regulatory and compliance activities, data and reporting, and the technologies that support these functions.
ideal candidate has demonstrated experience identifying opportunities to standardize, centralize, automate, transform, and operate insurance business processes at scale. They understand the difference between providing project-based advisory services and assuming ongoing responsibility for business outcomes through a managed services relationship. The ideal leader combines insurance domain expertise, operational excellence, commercial leadership, and technology fluency. They can translate insurance executives’ strategic and operational challenges into scalable managed services offerings and build the operating capabilities required to deliver those services consistently and profitably.

The Managing Director will establish and scale the firm’s Insurance Managed Services strategy, portfolio, operating model, delivery capabilities, and go-to-market approach. The role will be instrumental in building recurring services revenue, deepening strategic insurance client relationships, and helping clients create more efficient, scalable, technology-enabled insurance operating models.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Insurance, Risk Management, Information Systems, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
15+ years of progressive leadership experience in insurance, managed services, BPO/outsourcing, consulting, professional services, or technology-enabled delivery.
Deep knowledge of insurance operations, including underwriting, policy administration, claims, finance, compliance, data/reporting, and enabling technologies.
Proven experience building, scaling, or transforming insurance managed services, operations, BPO, shared services, or recurring delivery organizations.
Demonstrated success developing, commercializing, and taking new insurance service offerings to market.
Strong expertise in managed services operating models, governance, KPIs/SLAs, controls, quality, regulatory requirements, and performance improvement.
Experience designing scalable delivery models leveraging onshore, nearshore, offshore, automation, AI, workflow technologies, and analytics.
Proven success developing go-to-market strategies, leading strategic pursuits, expanding client relationships, and driving significant revenue growth.
Strong commercial and financial acumen, including pricing, contracting, recurring revenue, profitability, investment decisions, and business growth.
Ability to translate complex insurance challenges into scalable, technology-enabled solutions with compelling value propositions for senior insurance executives.
The pay rate range for this job position is $182,150 - $345,330. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of relevant factors including but not limited to applicant's skills, prior experience, qualifications, degrees, professional certifications, work arrangements, and geographic location.
