Job Description:
Join Baker Tilly as a Director in our fast-growing Financial Advisory Services team within the Office of the CFO practice. This is a leadership role within a rapidly scaling team focused on building a market-leading FP&A and finance transformation offering. We partner with CFOs, private equity sponsors, and executive teams to design, build, and operate high-impact finance functions that drive better, faster decision-making.
Our team supports a diverse client base—from high-growth, PE-backed portfolio companies to large enterprises—across industries including consumer products, manufacturing and distribution, technology, life sciences, healthcare, media and entertainment, and professional services. We deliver a broad suite of services spanning interim FP&A leadership, finance function stand-up, strategic planning, financial modeling, management reporting, and advanced analytics.
As a Director, you will operate at the intersection of client delivery, capability building, and business development, helping shape the future of our practice while serving as a trusted advisor to senior finance leaders. This role is focused on ongoing FP&A, finance transformation, and value creation—not transaction execution—often working with clients post-investment.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Leadership & Delivery
- Serve as a trusted advisor to CFOs, private equity sponsors, and senior executives, delivering high-impact FP&A and finance transformation engagements.
- Lead complex client engagements across a broad suite of services, including:
- Interim FP&A leadership and operational finance support
- FP&A function stand-up (people, process, and technology design)
- Budgeting, forecasting, and long-range strategic planning processes
- Advanced financial modeling (3-statement models, 13-week cash flow, scenario analysis)
- Management reporting design, automation, and performance insights
- KPI development and benchmarking, particularly within PE-backed environments
- Dashboarding and analytics solutions (e.g., Power BI)
- Cross-functional business partnering with sales, operations, and executive teams
- Support private equity-backed portfolio companies through value creation initiatives, including performance improvement, cash flow optimization, and finance infrastructure build-out.
- Oversee engagement execution, ensuring quality, timeliness, and profitability across multiple concurrent projects.
Practice Building & Capability Development
- Help define, build, and scale Baker Tilly’s FP&A and Office of the CFO capabilities, expanding beyond traditional strategic finance into a comprehensive, end-to-end offering.
- Develop and standardize methodologies, tools, and accelerators (e.g., forecasting frameworks, reporting templates, dashboard solutions).
- Collaborate across service lines (e.g., transaction advisory, tax, audit, consulting) to deliver integrated, cross-functional solutions.
Business Development & Market Presence
- Originate or expand client relationships, particularly within private equity firms and their portfolio companies, to drive new revenue and deepen existing accounts
- Lead proposal development and deal shaping, including scoping, pricing, and positioning of services
- Contribute to thought leadership, client presentations and market-facing content to enhance the firm’s brand in FP&A and finance transformation.
- Actively participate in go-to-market strategies targeting high-growth and PE-backed companies.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
- Help lead, mentor, and develop high-performing team members while fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and collaboration.
- Play a key role in recruiting and building out the team, particularly as the practice scales its capabilities.
- Provide technical guidance across financial modeling, FP&A processes, and client delivery.
- Operate as a player-coach, balancing hands-on problem solving with team leadership and oversight.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- 10–15+ years of relevant experience, ideally with a mix of:
- Big 4 or national accounting/consulting firm experience
- Corporate FP&A or finance leadership roles
- Direct experience working with private equity firms and/or PE-backed portfolio companies
- CPA, CMA, CFA, or similar credentials strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading finance transformation, FP&A build-outs, or operational finance initiatives.
- Strong understanding of private equity environments, including value creation, reporting expectations, and liquidity/cash management.
- Proven ability to lead multiple complex engagements and manage senior client relationships.
- Experience in business development, including winning new opportunities and contributing to revenue growth.
- Advanced financial modeling and analytical capabilities; strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience with FP&A and analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Anaplan, Adaptive, or similar) strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication and executive presence, with the ability to influence C-suite stakeholders.
- Strong project management and organizational skills in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Familiarity with US GAAP and broader finance/accounting processes.
- Ability to travel < 25% annually.
This is a unique opportunity to join a high-growth, entrepreneurial team within a leading firm, where you will play a direct role in shaping the strategy, offerings, and trajectory of the Office of the CFO practice. You’ll have the opportunity to build something meaningful, work closely with firm leadership, and position yourself for continued advancement toward Principal.
