Job Description:
The Independence Team under Risk Management is responsible for understanding, communicating, and ensuring the Firm’s and its professionals’ compliance with the relevant independence rules including but not limited to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA), as well as Baker Tilly independence policies. This position includes assisting assessing and approving proposed services with respect to client acceptance and new projects for existing clients.
Responsibilities:
- Working on independence matters within the firm’s automated conflict/independence system as part of the client acceptance process and/or for new projects for existing clients.
- Analyzing services and relationships between the firm and clients and applying the relevant independence rules to assess the impact on the firm’s independence.
- Analyzing complex corporate trees and private equity structures to identify affiliates of clients based on the applicable independence rules.
- Working with partners and managers in researching services being performed for clients.
- Working with the fi,rm’s conflicts team in identifying potential independence issues with clients.
- Consultations with partners and managers concerning independence.
- Sending firmwide independence checks and assessing and recording responses to said checks.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of 5+ year(s) experience required in audit independence.
- Knowledge of the independence rules of the SEC, PCAOB, AICPA, DOL and GAO.
- Ability to learn and run software systems and research tools.
- Experience running software systems and project management preferred.
- Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Excel, and Word, required.
- Ability to work in a deadline driven environment and handle multiple projects/tasks with an attention to detail.
- Ability to successfully multi-task while working independently or in coordination with other professionals.
- Capable of understanding and maintaining the confidentiality of all information.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate with diverse personalities in a tactful and mature manner.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to respond tactfully and professionally in high demand situations.
